syracuse before definite ar rangements are made a poll will be taken on the campus the fare for the trip if made will be approximately 8.00 by geri sideris today's edition of fortune magazine features an article on the scientists of america en titled the scientists having the same press time in common the brown and white initiated a quest of its own into the world of science hoping to sub stantiate the views expressed in fortune after presenting the usual background material relative to the growth of science fortune attacks governmental handling of inquiries of personalities in research the loss of high cali bre personnel is too costly a price to pay for a nation en trusted with the future of sci ence . fortune sent questionnaires to 4,000 scientists the results of which are published today in an effort to give meaning to these tabulations as they relate themselves to the campus scene and as they give an approxima tion of the typical scientist a member of the physics depart ment was chosen as the unsus pecting prospect john a karas 26 instructor in physics was graduated from lehigh in 1943 with a b.s in engineering physics and received his master's degree from lehigh in 1947 october 8 in the regis trar's office the series of 8 events will all take place in grace hall in the coming sea son the admission fees are as follows 4.00 faculty student guests and wives 8.40 general public the 4.00 group is limited to 500 tickets and the general pub lic group is limited to 200 tickets if all tickets are sold in advance the only possibility to attend a concert or lecture will be if there is a vacant space in grace hall whitney hotel in savannah an authority on food prepara tion mr stubbs has served as chief steward on a passenger liner and as steward for the atlantic coast line through the university place ment bureau the cafeteria has given employment to more than twenty lehigh men almost all cooking and baking is done on the premises in assuming management of lamberton hall mr stubbs re ports we aim to improve serv ice and maintain high quality at lowest possible cost to our patrons lamberton hall opened this semester under the direction of crotty brothers pennsylvania corporation second largest res tauranteurs in the country crotty brothers with headquar ters in boston has over eighty divisions and runs cafeterias in seven colleges the lehigh branch is man aged by hal stubbs long ex perienced in the restaurant field mr stubbs comes to lam berton from south carolina where he managed a chain of crotty cafeterias in the spring cotton mills previous to that he worked at the book-cadillac hotel in detroit and at the seidle rights preside at ifc meeting the inter-fraternity council met in drown hall september 17 with dean seidle and faculty advisor albert a rights of the english department to discuss the rules for the fall rush week rushing occupied the greater part of the meeting a house narty dance committee headed by jack mellinger was organ ized the subject of houseparty will be discussed in greater de tail at the next meeting which will be held on monday evening october 4 the chap who asked you are you in favor of the name pack ers during registration was douglas whittaker bus 50 dissatisfied with the manner in which the name packers had been chosen whittaker began a survey of the campus late in the summer semester at the close of the semester he had approached 492 students 420 of whom expressed disapproval although unable to give the impromptu poll the desired time whittaker nevertheless managed to contact an additional 200 students at registration this semester of this number 169 answered negatively a ratio of approximately s*/2 to 1 whittaker plans to continue the survey during his free mo ments until a representative number of the student body is reached this done he intends to submit his results to arcadia le to musically fete the queen this year's queen who will be chosen from six finalists during the intermission of the dance will be crowned by miss nancy fitch last year's house party queen she will be crowned with a garland that will be en graved with her name the crown will then be perpetuated she will also receive a cup which she may keep any student can enter his house party date in this con test to do so he should ad dress a picture of the girl to his particular living group town fraternity or dorm and then leave it in the arcadia office in drown hall committees from the three living groups will then pick up the pictures on october 20 which is the deadline for entries the living group judges will pick from these pictures two finalists to represent their re spective groups in the finals the six finalists will be judged at the ball by a committee of impartial judges as
