dao day is a true mystery the whole idea is to couple the coming of spring with commu nity spirit at lehigh explained norman girardot professor of religion studies and coordinator of the event this was lehigh s first dao day and students are discovering its unique experience daot is a chinese word that translates to the way or path of all things it symbolizes the great spirit and the path of life girardot said its purpose was for students to undergo a rebirth of spirit right before final exams people contributed ch'i energy which is the human spirit the problem we have is that all the time we do the same thing girardot said powers will be unleashed and this is one chance that some thing strange and totally unexpected will hap said the event began m the courtyard outside of fairchild-martindale library at 4 p.m daoest master hsuan yuan from new york city represented the north gold temple and will be performing a spring ritual students performed rituals at the same time the point was to channel the human energies into a collective spirit i think for people who want to think about it they could see the daoism m it and to other people it's just fun athena shapiro 97 said a lot of work was done by the students m girardot s class and she hopes it was fun for everyone else shapiro made a surprise appearance as winnie the pooh and led the daost master from the library to the lawn outside the univer sity center it's a combination of daoism spring and stress relieving shapiro said we're having a lot of things for students to pen it is a mystery how the dao will be expe rienced students m one of girardot s religion classes participated m the day and ran some events all are welcome and all can participate girardot said we want to get a reaction from people carla forgham 97 and lauren chuebon 97 held a tea booth featuring both chinese and jasmine tea they also created origami birds and flowers i think it's really neat to be doing some thing different by adding a cultural event that you don't often see here forgham said i think it's very interesting opening the campus to different experiences chuebon said to her it is a fun spring activity that is also causing a lot of chaos it produces a broad scale of involvement m class our professor thrives on chaos chuebon seniors say their last goodbyes by patricia hoffman news writer please see seniors page 8 senior class president juliegayle said the send-off will be a good way to say cheers to senior year and classes i think it will be really success ful and hopefully we will have a beautiful day to have it outside she said in case of rain students can still partake m the buffet and beverages m the galleria of rauch this afternoon is a kick-off of all the events we have planned gayle said it is time to get excited and felt this class has great enthusiasm and it would be a good year to resur rect the party this is our way to welcome the class of 95 into the alumni association and celebrate their accomplishments too tucker hopes to inform the se niors of the lehigh alumni clubs m the different cities where graduates may be moving the clubs sponsor events which provide a way to meet people you already have something m common with especially if you move to a new place where you don't know any one tucker said no more pencils no more books no more teachers dirty looks for their last day of classes se niors are invited to a send-off party held m the outside quad behind rauch business center this afternoon from 4 to 6 p.m the event is courtesy of the alumni association who have not held the event for the past two years janet tucker associate director of the alumni association and ad viser for the class of 1995 said we the brown and white all the magic to campus b w photo by mark rubins employees from dining services make their first record-breaking hoagie the sandwich weighed over 1,480 pounds there were a lot less hungry lehigh students after wednesday afternoon dining services sponsored an all-you-can-eat dinner for the students by serving them a record-breaking 625-foot hoagie sandwich the hoagie stretched from the beginning of the university center parking lot all the way down to the curve around linderman library the sandwich consisted of 125 pounds of provo lone cheese 175 pounds of salami 225 of ham 260 pounds of lettuce and 150 pounds of tomatoes when completed the sandwich was estimated to weigh over 1 480 pounds this was the first year dining services held such an event fred herzer assistant directorof dining services said the hoagie was given to the students as a way of saying thanks for a great year we always have an end of the year picnic but it usually consists of hotdogs and hamburgers he said this year as a way of saying have a good summer and thanks we wanted to do something unique please see hoagie page 8 by jennifer gillespie news writer be part of shapiro said these include face painting juggling kite flying an egg dropping contest and many other activities girardot said if energy is channeled prop erly it can take on a material form i hope it happens girardot said it's meant to be a once m a lifetime cultural experience that attempts to embody and mate rialize the collective spirit girardot said girardot said powers were unleashed two years ago at lehigh and it was documented that rauch was levitated energies were there girardot said we can certainly guarantee that strange things will happen and if they are not visible at least there will be free food girardot said referring to dao
