between harry palm and captain bogdan of perm in the 125-lb class bogdan has been defeated only once this year and the bout furnished plenty of thrills as the two men staged a great battle in which both slipped in and out of holds with astonishing rap idity palm nearly threw bog dan several times but the red and blue leader with a well perfected elbow-roll managed to free himself each time only bogdan's long experience as a wrestler saved him from de feat and enabled him to gain a time advantage of 3:48 min utes over palm bogdan's vic tory saved his team from a complete shutout eddie mcgovern lehigh's 115 pounder secured the first five points of the meet when he easily defeated gamm of perm after a six minute bout mc govern showed superiority from the beginning and had little xi the lehigh varsity wrestlers concluded a most successful dual meet season in philadelphia last saturday afternoon by defeating the university of pennsylvania grapplers 28-3 lehigh secured five falls and a time decision against a lone decision for perm the outcome of the meet was never in doubt as lehigh's superiority was evident from the beginning the feature bout of the after noon was between harry palm and captain bogdan of perm in the 125-lb class bogdan has been defeated only once this year and the bout furnished plenty of thrills as the two men staged a great battle in which both slipped in and out of holds with astonishing rap idity palm nearly threw bog dan several times but the red and blue leader with a well perfected elbow-roll managed to free himself each time only bogdan's long experience as a wrestler saved him from de feat and enabled him to gain a time advantage of 3:48 min utes over palm bogdan's vic tory saved his team from a complete shutout eddie mcgovern lehigh's 115 pounder secured the first five points of the meet when he easily defeated gamm of perm after a six minute bout mc govern showed superiority from the beginning and had little trouble throwing his man with a half-nelson and body hold after bogdan had gained his victory lehigh resumed her victorious march by taking the next bout by a fall when dick lewis threw smith of perm in less than six minutes lewis displayed lightning speed in bringing smith to the mat and after tiring him out managed to secure a bar and chancery which ended the bout in the 145-lb class captain bill heilman increased the le high total by throwing butz of perm in 4:21 minutes heil man had little trouble with his red and blue jerseyed oppon ent and managed to turn him over with a the second research fellow ship is held by hugh c jones who is working under profes sor h c neville on the setting of cement and plaster of paris in 1926 dr neville showed that setting of plaster of paris lith arge glycerine cement and sim ilar materials consists of a col loidal process plus a chemical reaction dr neville and mr jones are seeking similarities between the setting of plaster of paris and portland cement completed knowledge in the field of portland cement will greatly amplify knowledge on this substance and make it pos sible for scientists and engin eers to add substances to cement which make it adaptable for other uses incidentally the new type of apparatus employed has developed a method for di rectly measuring the cubical ex pansion of cement or similar materials which march 15 before the mathe matics research and journal club in packer hall all inter ested are invited final faculty dance no admission will be charged to the interfraternity tea dance which will be held on saturday afternoon april 28 during the week-end of house parties it was decided last night that the interfraternity council will defray all the ex penses of this dance which will be open to all persons taking in house-parties whether under graduates or graduates here tofore an admission has always been charged for this function which the council holds at the same time during each house party period but a point has been stretched this year to make the affair gratis leonard hor ton chairman of the council so cial committee announced that the best of music would be pro vided a recommendation was also passed at the council meeting last night urging the fraterni ties to provide scholastic re quirements for pledges prior to initiation this recommenda tion was made in order to help raise the scholastic average of fraternities although the fresh men are only a part of the fra ternity scholastic problem ini tiation requirements is one of the most effective aids to good scholarship the sixth and final dance sponsored by members of the faculty was held in drown hall saturday evening continuing the idea inaugur ated last year by the class of 1930 members of the freshman class taking chemistry turned over their laboratory fee re funds to the lehigh university student chemical foundation to date 1086 has been turned in with a few more pledges to be heard from contributions richard j degray one of the fellows is working under dr w w ewing on the pressure of water vapor on various com pounds of strontium nitrate with water of crystallization enormous quantities of this sub stance are used in red flares railroad danger signals aero plane landing lights ship rock ets and other forms of pyro technics this work also has direct bearing on the prepara tion of nitrates for fertilizer and preparation of nitric acid from the nitrogen in air in order that strontium nitrate may be as efficient as possible under all conditions it is impor tant to have
