the an cient roman house with its fur niture ; daily life amusements of the eomans ; rome and its he mains of antiquity in two parts ; augustus and the golden age the object of this series is to give a clear insight into the manners customs literature and art of the romans at the point of their high est development as last year the lantern views will be a feature of the course professor hyde has a collection of over five hundred fine lantern slides illustrating his lec tures . the first four will be in the hall of the centfalhigh school building south bethlehem on the evenings of oct 8 15 22 and 29 the last three will be in bethlehem at the moravian parochial school chapel on nov 5 12 and 19 the second course on the poetry and romance in new england will be given by professor william cranston lawton of bryn mr ■. t college this series consists of six lec tures ; one each on emerson hawthorne whittier longfellow holmes and lowell professor lawton is a popular lecturer and his lectures promise to be interest ing three of them are to be de livered in bethlehem and three in south bethlehem early in the fall notices the founder's day hop will be held in the gymnasium on friday evening october 12 at nine o'clock gentlemen's subscriptions will be 3.50 each it has not been deemed necessary to send invitations to college men as individuals but in order to clear any doubt that may arise from this course the committee wishes to state that every college student is at perfect liberty to attend the hop if he desires tickets may be procured from any of the following men : 0 t ayres,'9s hopkins,'9s dickerman 96 hale 97 and wood 98 william hopkins chairman the committee for the founder's day hop would consider it a great favor if the men in college or else where who have college or class banners would lend them to the committee for the puapose of decorating the gymnasium william hopkins chairman dr caskey will lecture on ben jamin franklin statesman philoso pher and man of letters for the l u a a on next saturday evening at 8 o'clock in the physi cal laboratory the junior election for a treasurer and an auditor will take place tomorrow morning friday 10.30 to 1 o'clock in the gym nasium there will be an election friday oct 5 in christmas hall for assist ant manager of football manager and iissistant manager of lacrosse and assistant manager of baseball the senior class election will be held friday oct 6 from 10.80 to 1 o'clock in christmas hall engineering society senior elections the senior class elections took place tuesday last in christmas hall as it requires a majority of the votes cast to elect only three men were declared elected as fol lows : j 11 philips treasurer brooks auditor ; and massey ath letic representative the remain der of the offices will be filled at an election to be held friday athletic association at the meeting of the executive committee of the athletic associa tion the following change was made in the constitution " the clause of the constitution which refers to the election of the assistant managers of teams of the lehigh university was changed to read : the assistant manager of each athletic team of the lehigh university sh all succeed to the managership without further election unless objections be filed and substantiated against him on account of inefficiency shown as as sistant manager by the college or by the team of which he was as sistant manager communication to the editors of the brown and white gentlemen — now that the alumni association is about to take hold of the government of the athletic association it may not be out of place to propose a scheme or two for the harmonious and sound financial management of our va rious athletic teams under the combined supervision of the under graduate and the alumni bodies the alumni will rightly desire a tight rein held on the expense ac count while the undergraduate managers will not favor a staunch restrictive policy it seems then there must somewhere be created an office of more than limited power and why can not this office be a professional managership in the hands of a lehigh alumnus whose interest in his alma mater whose experience and „ whose fit ness can guarantee satisfactory work such a manager say a university instructor could have entire power to supervise the mak ing of all schedules contracts and all other work of such a position junior class meeting the first regular meeting of the junior class for this term was held yesterday at 12.30 o'clock in the english room packer hall given and 11 w baldwin respectively the outgoing and incoming presi dents made short addresses the treasurer's report was read and other matters discussed but noth ing definite was accomplished the first regular bi-weekly meeting of the engineering society was held wednesday evening at quarter past seven the roll having been called the committees made their various re ports the committee on the ad visability of having a library for the society showed that it was not ad vantageous as the expense would be large and that the university li brary contained all necessary works on engineering the committee on reviving the quarterly announced it could be done if two hundred or more subscribers could be obtained it was decided that this commit tee should consider the matter with the old board of the quarterly and make another report at the next meeting the committee on associate mem bers are also to make another report at the next meeting the commit tee on papers for discussion reported that ferris 95 would read a paper at the regular meeting following it was voted to hold the meetings once every two weeks ;
