friday lehigh's roll call of big name bands since the festive weekends began in 1910 climbs to 81 williams the man behind the band for many of america's top flight orchestras a decade ago is now the man in front of one of the nation's most popular campus-touring bands rated as one of the top arrangers in the business williams was influ ential in setting the styles for such bands as those of the late glenn mil ler and the dorsey brothers he be gan his own group in 1941 boasting a fine musical back ground having graduated from the curtiss institute of music williams took a job with miller's band as saxophonist and chief arranger in 1935 the use of three euphoniums giving a golden echo to his mu sic was recognized as one of the most outstanding creations in the popular dance band field to receive a diploma during commence ment ceremonies at 10:30 a.m june 21 according to class president philip newman the petitions which have been mailed out to all seniors must be returned to the bursar's of fice when the petition is turned in each senior will receive his allotment of five tickets for the graduation program requests for additional tickets may be i made at the same time martin pearl class treasurer an nounced sunday that the class plaque will not be ready by gradua tion he explained that originally the bronze plaque which will hang in the chapel was supposed to bear the names of only those seniors who paid their class assessment recently it was decided to change the policy on the plaque and include all the names of the entire class in cluding men graduating in october pearl said the original plaque would have cost 1,400 according to the es timate but the new plaque which will be ready sometime after octo jber will only cost in the neighbor hood of 900 in
