shown at the scl feature this thursday the animal is a brontosaurus three professionals engaged for festival performances hc limitations are questioned by arcadians why won't there be a doctor on duty 24 hours a day at the new health center this question was brought up by pete veinott at the last arcadia meeting the reason given was that lehigh has such good relations with st luke's hospital that a round-the-clock health service would be unnecessary further reason given was that lehigh did not want to estab lish the center as a hospital in the event of an area epidemic it was reported the health center would have to be used by the town and would not be available for the students chairmen and co-chairmen of most of the major arcadia commit tees were named dr elmer c bratt professor of economics was unani mously voted faculty adviser for arcadia particular attention was given to the fact that men have been selling merchandise on the campus without see health page 4 an illustrated journey behind the scenes of life magazine's science series the world we live in will be presented in grace hall this thursday at 8 p.m illustrated by paintings and color photographs on a panoramic 30 foot three-panel screen with color motion pictures the lec ture will last 90 minutes one of the high spots of the lecture which is a student concerts lectures series feature is a film trip to a coral reef under the clear waters off bermuda diving deep below with the photographers to meet the weird and wonderful denizens of this fantastic under water world the program is being brought to the campus in cooperation with life magazine whose editors are furnish ing all projectors films speaker and technical crews the speaker will be david k hardy who has been news analyst and foreign correspondent for england's bbc and the london times ' first installment of life's the world we live in series begun in december 1952 was entitled the world is born this installment il lustrated the fascinating story of the origin of our world subsequent chapters told about the sea the land the atmos phere and the development of animal and vegetable life hardy will tell of the humor and ad venture encountered by life correspondents all over the world in their search for accur ate facts and pictures hardy will take his audience 3,600 feet into the depths of the ocean in a benthoscope across the desolate tundra of canada's north west deep into the rain forests of guiana and to a coral reef under the clear waters off bermuda the slides and motion pictures for the program will be shown on a panoramic screen by rear projection the slides will be on filmstrips con trolled by the speaker by a push button control box the projectors will be 18 feet behind the screen the panoramic screen is straight and will be seven and a half feet high 30 feet wide and bordered with drapery no one in the audience should be seated closer than 20 feet from the screen nor more than 85 feet from it there will be no admission charge for this program however seating will be limited to 1,200 persons be cause the equipment and screen will utilize considerable space in grace hall the elements guest speaker at the meeting of the robert w blake philosophical society thursday evening will be father joseph t clark s.j the meeting open to the public will be held in room 466 of packard labora tor beginning at 8 p.m father clark is professor of philosophy at bellarmine college in plattsburg n.y and is now on leave for a year at which time he is visiting harvard uni versity and making speaking tours father clark will talk on the history of science and the history of man prof adolf grunbaum associate professor of philosophy says of clark he has an established repu tation as an author and creative scholar in the history and philoso phy of science as well as in modern logic dr grunbaum feels that father clark's lecture at lehigh will be like his first here a most provoca tive and delightful presentation author of the book conventional logic and modern logic father clark received the ba degree from woodstock college woodstock md in 1934 and th ph.d degree in 1935 in 1948 he received the ma degree in classical philology from st louis university he has contributed to the classi cal bulletin thought philo sophical review and other periodicals member of the council of the his tory of science society and secretary editor of the jesuit philosophical as sociation father clark has recently been engaged in research on the thought of pierre gassendi and was a lecturer in the new york univer sity series on the impact of science of contemporary thought some of the other outstanding men who will appear here this spring are prof walter t stace and prof a c crombie three professional performers will participate in the spring music fes tiva april 23 and 24 john begg and betsy drew dancers and pianist william fairlamb will be featured soloists begg who did the choreogra phy for the 1953 festival is once again directing the dances this year he and his partner miss drew are also dancing this year they will appear in part i in old american dances which features the western one-step wallflower waltz and rag fairlamb will perform the con cert piece in f minor opus 79 by carl maria von weber he will be accompanied by the concert band prof william h schempf head o the music department and musical adviser to the festival arranged the selection for the band accompani ment begg is the director and chor eographer of the ballet carnival and has been guest choreogra pher for the famed mia slaven ska ballet he has teamed with such famous choreographers as agnes de mille jerome bobbins and helen tamiris in broad way musicals his choreography experience in cudes such hit broadway shows as oklahoma brigadoon bloomer girl finian's rainbow kiss me kate and paint your wagon the metropolitan opera ballet the ballet russe and the seven live ly arts with markova and dolan are three of the productions which have featured him as a dancer see begg page 7 scattered showers and thunder storms is the weatherman's promise for tonight and thursday and probably again sunday total precipitation 25 to 5 inch tempera tures for the next five days will av erage 2 to 5 de grees above the present normal of 46 mild weather through thursday colder friday and saturday warmer sunday next b & w april 23 this is the final issue of the brown and white until classes resume after spring vacation the next issue will be distributed friday april 23 vacation officially begins at noon this saturday and ends at 8 a.m on monday april 19 when classes will resume 3 booths set up for fest tickets music festival ticket sales booths outside lamberton hall and the library will be open to morrow from noon to 5 p.m for that day only the grace hall ticket booth is open every week day from 4 to 6 p.m except dur ing spring vacation there are still blocks of seats available for friday night april 23 in all sections prices
