its reached a certain number the student would be liable to specified penalties regardless of the gravity of the most recent offense gross said the new system will be more flexible demerits and penalties will be gradually worked out by the committee he added the university committee on dis cipline has adopted a new system of penalties for violators of univer sity regualtions mai gross stu dent representative on the commit tee announced at wednesday's arcadia meeting a system of cumulative de merits has been intorduced to over come what the committee report described as two difficulties in the penalties exacted disciplinary probation is un even and unfair in its effects on students for a student prominent in campus activities it is a penalty of varying severity depending upon his interest in and degree of participation in activities the re port read for the student with no interest in activities disciplinary probation is meaningless it continued the other difficulty cit ed is the need for an intermediate type of penalty present ones are either drastic such as expulsion and disciplianry probation or mild such as reprimands and warnings the need for something in be tween led to the demerit system under the new system every vio lation would result in demerits on the student's record when demer the epitome photographer called for only coats and ties when he took the price hall group shot the other night this is what greeted him as some of the group took him at his word rogues are top row klein cupschalk gallaher and sapner seated boyd neiderer allen ram lozano and silver on floor decunto and laun epitome fotog did make the boys cover up for the final take however idc deans approve dorm movies-again motion picture entertainment on campus for students is not far off idc has unanimously voted to carry through the recent proposal by bruce steinhoff 54 to provide movies to help increase dormitory social events idc has organized a committee to get projection equipment set up and make other arrangements for see movies page 6 mahmood rahim has no desire to follow in dad's footsteps as he puts it there's too much strain and besides you have to work for the government rahim's father is egypt's ambassador to the u.s and rahim is a junior transfer student at le high majoring in e.e the tall dark and handsome j student — he actually fits the cliche — would rather return to egypt to aid in the industrializa tion of his country as egypt is so | over-populated he feels that the i only method of correction is by mechanization and development of industry another reason for rahim's de sire to return home after complet ing his studies at lehigh is because !
