second elimination by a 138-107 see elections page 8 sam johnson elected new i d c prexy nick gentile was elected president of the class of 53 at the class elections monday and tues day gentile garnered 108 votes on the first ballot and received a majority of the 360 votes on the fourth elimination to defeat run ner-up charlie hull hull then defeated mark kaufman to win the vice presidency pete huester was elected treasurer and bob sapp secretary a printer's error marred the class of 55 elections the election of jim gleckner as treasurer was not declared official until wed nesday because his name was printed on the ballot in different darker type and thus stood out mike arra head of the arcadia elections committee said that an investigation disclosed no evi dence of fraud instead the mis take in printing the ballot was due to mistake in the spelling of gleckner's name when the spell ing was corrected the name was printed in different type and the copyreader failed to catch the mistake in an extremely close con test reg carpenter nosed out by smith for the 55 presidency af ter the other nine candidates were eliminated carpenter and smith were tied with 154 votes apiece under arcadia rules in such a sit uation the vote reverts back to lehigh university brown and white five hundred students assem bled on the lawn in front of pack er hall wednesday to see 49 un with sports events including tug of war baseball throw sack race 3 legged-race potato race leap frog and medicine ball race a supper of baked beans and hot dogs followed skits and olher contests took i place in the evening the day ended with movies of joe louis career and an auto racing film taylor field day was the last act as president for sam johnson the new idc president capt walter of military department dean seidle dr fornoff of the chemistry department and hu bert snyder of the mathematics department were the faculty members present section c was third with 20 points d fourth with 14 and e last getting six points the beau ty contest was won by c section free drinks load dates at senior picnic free beer hot dogs dates and pogo sticks will be available to those seniors attending the free class picnic saturday may 24 r from 2 to 6 p.m at the waldheirrt maennerchor picnic chairman jerry muskin announced the picnic will touch off a ser ies of class activities which will be climaxed by the semi-formal graduation ball on saturday june 14 wally spotts and his orchestra will provide music from 10 to 1 on the upper floor of grace hall for anyone the seniors wish to invite including parents and friends there will be no admission charge waxy milkman is in charge of distributing the pogo sticks at the picnic the sticks will of course be used for a pogo stick race those who wish dates should con tact muskin bach fans fill chapel music enthusiasts from all over the nation invaded the le high campus last night for the opening of the 45th bach festival in packer memorial church dr ifor jones group of 181 singeis included many veterans of bach festivals phyllis curtain was again presented as the star soprano lillian knowles contral to david lloyd tenor and mack harrell basso the thursday night pro gram included two cantatas and selected parts from the mass in b minor this afternoon's session began at 4 and included three ad ditional cantatas while tonight's performance will feature numer ous vocal selections by ihe group saturday at 10:30 a.m ralph kirk see bach page 7 808 borofski 52 was given the vasity l club cup for the best all-around athlete rob ert e canfield 52 received the dean's service award and j burk mcnamara 52 was awarded the bosey reiter leadership cup at the annual flagpole day exercises wednesday seventeen athletic awards were also handed out and the idc award for all-around excellence among dormitory sections was presented to dravo c 2 also dis closed were the names of the 28 seniors who have been named le high's representatives in who's who in american colleges and universities john arnesen new president of arcadia pledged arcadia's sup port in a move for improved health service facilities wiihin the coming year arnesen named this as arcadia's chief objective but also pledged to try to solve par tially the parking problem how ever he said there is no real so lution which will satisfy every one arnesen was introduced by gene howie past president of ar cadia who reviewed the organi zation's activities during the past year he pointed out the improve ment of the registration system which shortened the time neces sary to register the initiation of freshman orientation classes gentile hull win senior elections
