in 1952 should file applications at once for the apr 24 test j e terral director of testing administra tion educational testing service advised today an application and a bulletin of information may be obtained at any selective service local board following instructions in the bul letin the student should fill out his application immediately and mail it in the special envelope provided applications must be postmarked no later than mid night mar 10 1952 early filing will be greatly to the student's advantage results will be reported to the student's selective service local board of jurisdiction for use in considering his deferment as a student according to educational testing service which prepares and administers the college qua lification test theta chis aid blind association with help week building project mil ball to be at 9 tomorrow spearheading a diivo for community service has been the ta chi fraternity which last week concluded a large project for the bethlehem blind association at 12v e broad si twenty seven men taking part in the help week project spent a total of eco man hours constructing cleaning painting and moving at a total cost of 18.50 theta chi started operations feb 4 by designing and con structing 10 shuttle bins for hold ing spools of cloth for the manu facturing of woven rugs these bins were given two coats of enamel paint also accomplished were the painting of the cellar stairs halls and a ba'hroom installation of fluorescent lights in the cellar and cleaning of weaving looms two cabinets and a storage case were hauled from the first floor to the second tho two cabinets were repainted and one assembly table top was also painted contact with the bethle hem blind association was made last month by a committee of two brothers james cooke 53 and george hopkins 54 to discover if a pioject could be arranged mrs gladys comstock supervisor of the association and leroy price industrial director laid out a number of jobs which they wanted done these were soon completed under the direction of frank leake 53 house manager the blind association employs 3 blind persons full time besides holding classes in the study of b.aille an average worker pro duces 10 voids of v ig per day the idea of a help week ori ginated at indiana university in 1949 and since then has swept to many campuses in the east the ifc has sanctioned the proposal of a help week at lehigh and has promised financial support for the program nsa controversy continues 79 lehigh students basticated excessive absences are re sponsible for the suspension of 39 unde graduates for the second semester of the current academic year and 49 more have been dropped from lehigh altogether for failure to meet the academic standards these facts are quickly follow ed by a statement by the com mittee on discipline that there have been 21 cases in which the university has had to take disci plinary action in order to main tain order on the campus the committee reported 1 indefinite suspension from the university for poor citizen ship ungentlemanly conduct and malicious destruction of property one e.e 54 student 2 registration declared null and void dropped from the uni versity and denied any future re gistration at lehigh for falsifica tion of entrance records one transfer student 3 dropped from course with out credit and suspended from the university for one semester for cheating and collusion in an hour quiz and for persistent falsifica tion of the facts two bus ad 55 students 4 dropped from course without ciedit and placed on disciplinary probation for cheating and collu sion in an hour quiz three bus ad 55 students one arts 53 stu dent 5 dropped from course without credit and placed on scholastic probation for plagiarism and eva see cuts page 3 scabbard and blade na tionak honorary military society will hold its annual mil ball to morrow night on the upper floor of grace hall dancing to the mu sic of matt gillespie will be from 9 p.m until 1 a.m admission will be 1.95 a couple featured voca list is kenny meyers spiking a rumor circulating among students capt paul wal ter of the ms&t dept announced that advanced students are not required to attend the dance but since they are a part of the ser vice th 3 department feels they should attend capt walter expressed the be lief that it is a part of the cus toms of the service that officers attend military functions in that light we would like them to at tend but no one is required to do so and there will be no gate check the decorative scheme will be supplied by ordnance displays of fighting equipment including rifles machine guns field radios and mortars all members of scabbard and blade and advanced military courses in attendance will be ex pected to wear uniforms during the intermission th crack pershing rifles unit will give an exhibition of precision drill all commands will be given by whistle and the emphasis will be placed on perfection of move ment participating members of see ball page 7 pr — william westerman the national student association is an organ ; zatior of student governments which has as its primary purpose the serving of the student community requests for student opinion are becoming more numerous every day if the nsa does not attempt o s:ate this opinion some other organziation will there are many other organizations backed by church groups and political parties and controlled for the most part not by young men and women but by their older leadeis which would leap into a gap created by the gagging or extinction of nsa are the policy statements made by nsa form ed by some small group of far away wheels if it is known far enough in advance that nsa s s to represent the students before the senate com mittee on umt or at the ncaa meeting concern ing de-emphasis of athletics questionnaires are sent out to all the 350 member schools the student governments are asked to sound out undergradu ate sentiment on the issue and forward these opin ions to the national officers see pro page 6 column 2 con — don styer arcadia's constitution de-lines its purpose to be to advance the welfare and common interests of the s'.udent body and the university in other v/ords arcadia functions to serve lehigh and le high mr.n therefore arcadia's activities should be bent in this direction one must consequent ly evaluate lehigh's membership in the national student association in the light of what msa con tributes to the student body and to the university nsa has cost arcadia and the students — it comes out of their tuition over 2,000 during the last four years ,- currently the cost exceeds 400 sach year what benefits have lehigh derived from nsa to justify this expenditure in answer ing such a question one must judge an organiza tion neither by what it proposes to do nor by its fine ideals but rather by what it has accomplish ed nsa's primary emphasis has been and from all indications will continue to be on the tuesday of the dormitory representatives in drown hall burke mcnamara 52 of dravb c 2 pioposed that idc recom mend to the administration that a snack bar be set up on campus as soon as possible this motion along with one made by robert schuchman 53 of taylor d was adopted schuchman's plan calls for a re commendation to the dean of stu dents that rent for the presidential suite idc be figured on the ba sis of rent paid during the two semesters preceding his election as idc president rather than on the prevailing four term basis
