see long runs page 5 cincinnati symphony reviewed by harlan kelly to a small but enthusiastic au dience the cincinnati symphony under the direction of dr thor johnson brought a varied and dynamic program of rich orches tral fare at scl on saturday night in grace hall the musical menu included such symphonic favorites as the powerful symphony no 1 by johannes brahms and in striking contrast the grace ful and subtle white pea cock of american-b or n charles griffes not so famil iar perhaps but certainly as exciting was the modem bal let by ralph vaughan-wil liams based on the biblical story of job this masque for dancing as it is called certainly displayed all the orchestral facilities won derfully and its modern idiom was very well suited for a col lege audience somewhat of an oddity was the use of an alto saxophone in the last movement of this five movement work the concert opened with a clean and well-paced perform ance of a rarely heard symphonia by j c bach son of the famous johann sebastian bach actually however the music of this sym phonia was more reminiscent of see scl page 7 realism to the point of the so viet delegation stalking from the meeting room highlighted the
