the field are expected ta attend according to dean carl e allen some are expected from oregon and california president whitaker will open the meeting with a short greeting the first paper to be presented will be en titled what we don't know about consumer credit and will be followed by a dis cussion from the floor under the chairmanship of prof e c bratl department of eco nomics two papers will then be pre sented on the topic of regulation and they will be followed by a discussion by paul selby execu tive vice president national consumer finance association a general discussion from the floor will be led by dr e a bradford head of the department of finance dr h m diamond head of tk see confab page 2 orientation period for 55 class to provide a useful follow through program in connection with the already established freshman week a plan has been proposed to set up a six-week training session starting with the fiist scholastic week after fall reg istration and continuing for the six weeks thereafter led by a certified student leader each freshman will attend a one-hour a week class which will be fitted in to his program in a manner similar to that of the physical education department at reg istration time the present chairman of the arcadia freshman committee will become the active chairman of this program next fall and will assume all responsibility for ini tially setting up the organization and administering the plan this enables the program to have con tinuity and is in line with studeni government activity the chairman and the fol lowing student word from the testing center at princeton specifically direct ing them to take the test on this dale will be admitted upon presentation of their postcards room assignments will be post ed in christmas-saucon hall fur ther information may be obtain ed from armstrong at the coun seling and testing cenier in that building in honor and remembrance of the lehigh men who have given their lives for their country during wars the all-university memor ial observance will be held sunday at 11 a.m in packer memorial church greater love hath no man than this that a man lay down his life for his friends will be the thought of the memorial sermon delivered by univer si!y chaplain george m bean following the memor ial greeting by president whitaker a posl-war tradition the ob sorvance is sponsored by scao bard and blade national honor ary advanced military society the entire membership of the or ganization will take part in the service and will march with the choir in both the processional and recessional they also will provide a color guard and serve as ushers during the service there will be a period of silent prayer which will end with the playing of taps special music will be provided by the chapel choir directed by see war dead page 8 pop concert by b&w band here saturday brown and white band will piesent its second annual pop concert arranged in the same manner as the boston pops or chestral presentations on satur day at 8 p.m on the top floor of grace hall free reservations for tables may be made by contacting the music department at 7-5071 ext 239 or by friend by financing a new dormitory is told in the following extract from his diary i got my revenge one day up on charlie taylor who was al ways urging me to do for others he is a graduate of lehigh uni versity and one of her most loyal sons lehigh wished a building and charlie was her chief advocate i said nothing but wrole to presi dent drinker offering the funds for the building conditioned up on my naming it he agreed and i called it taylor hall when charlie discovered this he came and protested that it would make him ridic ulous that he had only been a modest graduate and was not entitled to have his name renovation of taylor house first dormitory built at lehigh univer sity 44 years ago at an estimated cost of 150,000 has been author ized by the university board of trustees the project will require at least two years to complete accord ing to andrew w litzenberger superintendent of buildings and grounds who is com pleting detailed plans for the remodelling work is expect ed to get underway on the first phase this summer when new plumbing and lighting systems will be installed new heating equipment and construction of a steam tun nel from drown hall are pro jects for the summer of 1952 according to present plans biggest innovation will be con stiuciion of two new lounges and two recreation rooms on the mair floor they will be equipped in he same manner as lounges in other dormitories on the campus discussing the new light ing project litzenberger said that the building will be completely rewired new fix tures will be inialled in each room no-fuse panels will be constructed and all ceiling lights will be controlled by switches occupancy in the historic building will be reduced by 17 as a result of the construction oi three centrally located showei see taylor
