pajama-clad freshmen to parade after rally see pajamas page 2 freshman skits and the traditional pajama parade to moravian college for women will highlight the annual pre-lafayette game pep rally friday at 7:30 p.m on the lower floor of grace hall preliminary judging of the skits will take place thursday at 4 p.m on the upper floor of grace hall when approximately six freshman groups will be selected to compete in the finals at the pep rally about 30 skits will be presented at the preliminaries by freshmen from the dorm sections and leonard hall after the rally a bonfire built by the class of 54 will be lit on the uppr field permission to lay aside the dinks will be granted by cyanide if the flames reach 116 feet in height the bonfire is the final requirement for discarding the dinks after the defeat of the la fayette tug-of-war team by the freshmen following the bonfire the pajama-clad freshmen will march across the penny bridge to serenade the girls at moravian the varsity l they had won before they let the rope drop in contrast to last year's event when spectators from both sides interfered with the pull causing a riot spectator participation this year was limited to the go go goi of lehigh rooters however a riot nearly did take place when some of the hardier lafayette partisans made a rush for one of the goal posts nothing came of this however as the surging mob soon contained no one but lehigh men lehigh will retain possession of the tug-of-war cup which was do nated by cyanide and the calu met club of lafayette for a year at the end of 20 years the school with the most victories will retire the trophy permanently though they came out on the short end of the score in their football game with the lafayette frosh the lehigh freshmen wrought quick revenge when they gained an easy victory in the annual tug-of-war last friday at taylor stadium as a result the frosh were not only undinked but they gave lehigh possession of the new tug-of-war trophy originally scheduled to be held during half time of the football game the tug-of-war had to be postponed until after the game because the lafayette team did not arrive until late in the third period when it was held the well organized lehigh frosh had no trouble in hauling the three-inch hawser which was donated by bethlehem steel company the 10 yards neces sary for victory as they swept both heats - in the second heat thinking they already had won the lehigh frosh dropped the rope too soon however the lafayette team fail ed to take advantage of this lapse and they once again were pulled the required distance this time the lehigh men made certain that above bergman 22 snares herb weiss 30-yard pass despite defensive efforts by tech's ame oberg 50 themselves as they held le high pretty much in check for most of the first half but after being pushed around by the hard-playing engineers car negie lost all desire to play good ball furthermore they committed costly errors es pecially in the last quarter and only the clock stopped lehigh who was converting these mistakes into touch downs from reaching a rec ord total dick doyne's four touchdowns paced the onslaught as the hard running halfback took over the team's lead and tied for state high see kilties page 5 mcfadden to speak to b&w editors prof joseph mcfadden head of the journalism division will address a meeting of all editors and managers of the brown and white at 4:15 p.m on wednes day nov 15 the gathering will be held in the journalism class room drown hall heave heave the cry of hundreds of lehigh men urge the straining freshmen to titanic effort as they surge back and forth in their winning battle against the rope luggers of lafayette the uniformed frosh won two consecutive pulls to wrest the trophy from lafayette cheerleader wally fields center shouts words of encouragement to the frosh doyne scoros . . . volume 61 — number 14 tuesday november 14 1950 big brown pours it on to smash tech 66-0 bethlehem penna university to discipline holders of explosives the referee raism ir's am in a signal familiar to spectators at saturday's rout of tech as dick doyne lands in paydirt despite the efforts of an unidentified tech defender jim milligan 15 and george rusnak 38 of the skibos lock on dejectedly on the ground is bill kiisos 20 of lehigh this was the third doyne touchdown he amassed four for the afternoon to tie dan parell of bloomsburg with 11 for the state scoring lead by john crane two of pennsylvania's top un defeated football teams — lehigh and carnegie tech — met in tay lor stadium saturday in what was supposed to be a tight struggle betv/een the two each gunning for a perfect season lehigh how ever forgot all about the pre game billing the engineers com pletely outclassed their oppon ents as their hard-running attack rugged tackling and greater strength erased ali ideas of a poss ible carnegie victory and before the afternoon was over the capa city crowd of about 12,000 saw lehigh roll up their largest score of the season 66-0 even the most optimistic of le high rooieis never expected the engineers to gain their eighth straight victory by humbling sup posedly strong carnegie tech by such a score however lehigh was too powerful for the skibos tech started the game by giving a good account of frosh win tug-of-war return trophy to lu bulk ammunition found in dorms a large quantity of explosives was confiscated friday when cam pus police made a surprise raid on students living in dravo drinker and richard dormitories the raid climaxed a number of previous warnings issued by cam pus authorities and violators were cited for appearance before the discipline committee among the items found by the raiders were bundles of dynamite caps and bulk gun powder which were used to make firecrackers and other materials necessary for manu facturing noisemakers students were not satisfied with the conventional type fire see ammo page 3 congdon warns of more action almost immediately after the first of a proposed series of raids by campus police in dormitory sections friday dean congdon formally warned all students that any individual found with explo sives of any sort would be subject to suspension from the university a portion of dean cong don's letter follows campus police this morn ing friday ed inspected four rooms in the residence halls three of these rooms yielded an assortment of ma terials of which possession and use are illegal or danger ous or both firearms regis tered and unregistered air see congdon page 3 lehigh university brown and white inside . • • sports 1 4 5 little man 2 6 who's who 3 peace pact 6 7
