daughter the writer falls in love with her and makes his will payable to her then he asks the gangsters to shoot him he hopes that by this means he can remove the girl from the drabness of her surroundings and insure her hap piness the petrified forest was first produced by gilbert miller and leslie howard the latter playing the afternoon and evening of an the lead in 1934 the play covers investigated after turning down the petition of seniors to hold the graduation exercises in taylor stadium the committee on the standing of stu dents offered an alternative plan of placing 2,000 chairs around the flag pole and holding the exercises there alan s grant i e 39 presi dent of the senior class stated last night that he favored the alterna tive plan and that he felt the sur roundings will make for an im pressive ceremony in this way each senior will be entitled to about five tickets final approval of the plan de pends upon the cost of erecting a public address system and member at large of arcadia and maynard l diamond arts 41 was chosen head cheer leader carl h richardson arts 40 and carl l steig i e 40 were chosen senior cheerleaders douglas c paul bus 40 aug ustus a riemondy ch e 41 and arthur h rich bus 42 were elec ted secretary-treasurers of their classes freshmen lead voting organization of the town council had a strong influence on the election declared george a albrecht bus 39 chairman of the arcadia elections committee this may be taken as an indication of greater interest on the part of the town men in student government the ballots will be available in the arcadia office for examination by anyone for the next fifteen days according to albrecht franc h burnett i e 39 presi dent of arcadia stated arcadia feels gratified at the interest in student government indicated by the very large balloting today the class of 1942 led the ballot ing with 350 votes while the class of 1941 cast 260 votes and the class of 1940 193 criticisms listed 2 honoraries meet to discuss lehigh policy the tau beta pi-phi beta kap pa senior criticism committee met wednesday night and discussed criticisms of university policy per sonnel and teaching methods the report of the committee is to be ap proved at a meeting on thursday and will be forwarded to the presi dent of the university for action the meeting was secret and all matters discussed are
