collective secur ity as a basis for the foreign policy of the united states found 50 stu dents who attended a two-hour peace meeting wednesday night in packard auditorium in favor of the former plan dr amos a ettinger associate professor of history stated his be lief that america could gain noth ing by helping the so-called dem ocracies of europe who had little right to object to germany's land grabbing he gave a brief account of french and english policies in the past which indicate that even these nations would not be suitable allies for the united states voicing a plea for american freedom ett inger asked for peace not only for its economic advantages but also for its ideal as a step toward this goal he urged that this nation adopt a policy of isolation to stay clear and stay out of any europe an entanglement and to fight only for domestic defense students argue for alliance the policy of collective security was advocated by norman l morse ch e 40 and howard j lewis arts 40 when they urged that the united states form an eco nomic alliance with the non-ag gressive nations of the world al though lewis suggested a general line-up with european democra cies he cautioned against militar ism in america warning the group that democracy must primarily be maintained at home morse reviewed the errors made by this country during the world war and explained that instead of making the world safe for demo cracy it was attitudes of the allies that directly brought about present conditions stating that america had great interests in europe to which a war would be disasterous he also advocated an economic alli ance of non-aggressors which would forestall war until the old mistakes could be corrected peace ably george e tabet joseph a waldschmidt ralph w hel wig
