held late this spring in bethle hem it was announced today by stweart cockenburg chairman of the convetnion committee of the bethlehem chamber of commerce the sigma phi convention will take place on june 16 17 18 while delta phi fraternity chapters will assemble sometime in may one hundred and fifty delegates from ten colleges will meet here for the sigma phi convention the chapters to be represented are from union college hamilton col lege williams college hobart col lege university of vermont cor nell university university of mi chigan university of wisconsin and the university of california it will be the fraternities 112 th an nual convention both founded at union sigma phi was founded in 1827 at union college and is the second oldest of college social fraternities the lehigh chapter was founded in 1887 by 26 men sigma phi has ten active chapters with a total membership of 2400 delta phi also was founded in 1827 at union college the lehigh chapter was establised in 1884 by the student . chemical society last night in his talk dr harris described the structure of the common textile fibers cotton wool and silk and showed slides to illustrate his speech besides talking about the natural fibers used in the textile industry he discussed the synthe tic silk products rayon and the new nylon number of flying cadets may be increased at san antonio to give physical tests an examining board composed of army air corps personnel will visit lehigh this spring to examine prospective flying cadets the third corps area headquarters announced yesterday according to lt col joseph s leonard profesor of mil itary science and tactics the board will make the trip in view of a probable increase in the number of flying cadets to be trained at the air corps training center at
