refused to announce the names of orchestras for the annual interfraternity ball but it was de cided that the price of tickets be raised from 3 to 3.30 so that enough surplus can be obtained to finance the booklet if the plan goes through a poll taken at the beginning of the meeting showed that there are now 835 men either brothers or pledgees in lehigh fraternities granatt told the council that 84 of 165.34 of which living groups contributed 81.89 the balance 83.45 con sisted of individual contributions fraternities also supported a plan drawn up by the interfrater nity council last year for donating christmas baskets to the poor of bethlehem each fraternity con tributed 3.50 which was turned over to the bethlehem community chest d'arcy w roper 11 bus 40 was in charge of collections interfraternity council to follow other colleges in protest of law houses will sign checks the aid of the members of the interfraternity council was sought last night in contesting of the so cial security act as it applies to fraternities president milton h granatt bus 39 asked that all fraternity treasurers sign social security checks under protest the law schools of several universities will xater take up the case and protest the levying of social security as sessments for fraternity employees this proposal was presented ori ginally at the national interfrater nity council meeting held during the thanksgiving holidays gran att said that his attitude toward a cooperative buying system for le high had cooled after the evidence which he heard against such a system at the conclave the facts he said pointed to the conclusion that the system works in large state-supported institutions but fails in small colleges discuss rushing revision two other proposals sprung from the ideas which granatt heard at the meeting in new york one was a plan for revision of rushing practices and another for the publication of a pamphlet by the council this pamphlet would contain illustrations of the frater nities the cost of living in each one and would describe fraternity social activities the plan called for the distribution of the book lets to all incoming freshmen granatt named two committees refused to announce the names of orchestras for the annual interfraternity ball but it was de cided that the price of tickets be raised from 3 to 3.30 so that enough surplus can be obtained to finance the booklet if the plan goes through a poll taken at the beginning of the meeting showed that there are now 835 men either brothers or pledgees in lehigh fraternities granatt told the council that 84 had been collected before christ mas for charity baskets it was re ported by robert rose bus 39 that a plan for the licenscing of pedlers visiting the houses on and off the campus was likely to be put most comprehensive social welfare act ever enacted by any country declared dr herbert m diamond head of the department of economics and sociology at a meeting of the brith sholom com munity center
