lehigh pref erence in most instances the sel ected products and publications were favored heavily over their closest competitors the eighth man survey is the most successful investigation of the ballots won a close race with the 40 cast for collier's time attained third pos ition in the weekly publications receiving 29 votes the supremacy of esquire's monthly magazine was indicated by a total interests of international science and geodesy dr bowie took part in promot ing international cooperation in geodetic projects he participated in encouraging dr f a meinezis of holland to use a new apparatus which he invented for measuring the acceleration of gravity at sea level bowie made arrangements for the united states navy and geodetic commission of holland to cooperate in this work one of bowie's projects was in the field of mapping and survey ing for 25 years he insisted upon a uniform set of maps to cover the country in 1919 the federal board of surveys and maps was inaug urated
