has had an ad viser dr beardslee has served in an unofficial capacity for several years the golf team according to jos eph hopkins bus 38 president of the council had the second best average last year among all lehigh teams and was voted 100 to aid in covering its expenses hopkins said that there had been no accidents reported before or after the interfraternity ball at dorney park dean c m mcconn council meeting last night in drown hall approved as its faculty adviser dr claude g beardslee head of the department of moral and religious philosophy although this is the first time that the council has had an ad viser dr beardslee has served in an unofficial capacity for several years the golf team according to jos eph hopkins bus 38 president of the council had the second best average last year among all lehigh teams and was voted 100 to aid in covering its expenses hopkins said that there had been no accidents reported before or after the interfraternity ball at dorney park dean c m mcconn was pleased with the con duct at the dance and called it one of the most successful he has attended objects to outsiders the only objectionable feature of the dance hopkins said was the attendance of non-fraternity and even non-lehigh students after a discussion of means with which to cope with this situation in the near future during which such methods as the compulsory hears dr bozorth white zell hunsberger also to investigate school monopolies william g dukek ch e 38 chairman of the omicron delta xcappa committee for the inves tigation of job monopolies has as signed specific fields to each of the members of the committee and when their results are obtained there will be a meeting to exam ine the findings of the investiga tion paul e p white e e 38 will assist dukek in the investigation of all student government associa tions and in any other organi zations relating to student activi ties except publications and ath letics zell to examine sports managerships and other phases of athletics will be the subject of examinations by charles f zell bus 38 an attempt will be made to examine the records of the last 10 years and try to determine just how much politics there mechani cal and indstrial engineers was decided last night at a meeting of the society in packard laboratory a proposal had been made that the fraternity be turned into an association the society also selected march 3 as the date for elections this early date wlas chosen so that pledges will be able to make their required wooden keys during the spring vacation a discussion was also held con cerning the resale of the bonds which were formerly sold to pay for the furnishings of the engi neers longe in packard laboratory the original plan was that these bonds were to be sold from gradu ating engineers to student engi neers for as long as the lounge should exist but this plan has not been carried out a report on the convention held by the society last november at lehigh was given by philip service by dean roscoe thorn ton foust and the rev m m moore motion picture of heavens explained by lecture seeing the universe will be the subject of a motion picture and lecture to be presented by ruroy sibley noted lecturer at 8 15 o'clock this evening in pack ard auditorium the program is sponsored by the e w brown astronomical society mr sibley will show five reels including a special reel showing an imaginary trip to the moon the pictures which will be accom panied by a commentary by mr sibley give a composite picture of the heavens as seen through some of the world's largest tele scopes considerable effort has been ex pended in the filming of mr sib ley's reels on solar activity the pictures which show sun-spots and eclipses are the result of ef forts made by a recent eclipse ex pedition mr sibley is connected with the educational films corporation of america which makes many films on technical and scientific subjects he has presented his pictures and lectures at rutgers lafayette games physics society studies magnetic theory those who were present at the meeting of the physics society last evening heard as part of the lec ture presented by dr r m boz orth of the bell telephone lab oratories the strange sound of microscopic crystals of magnetic materials pounding against each other as they arranged themselves symmetrically in a magnetic field the lecture entitled ferromag netic theory and some recent experiments on single crystals of ferromagnetic materials was accompanied by lantern slides and demonstrations clarifying dr boz orth's statements the sound of crystal motion was made clearly audible by a delicate amplifying system which produced , a peculiar clicking roar other ex periments designed to determine possibilities in magnetism applied to the engineering and sound fields were also described freeman metzger take first debate barnard kowalyshyn second intramural debating teams rep resenting the chemical engineers and electrical engineers defeated squads consisting of business stu dents in the third round of the winter tournament wednesday evening in packard auditorium resolved that all anthracite mines within the state of pennsyl vania should be owned by the federal government was the topic of discussion this was the first time this question was used this season william i freeman ch e 40 and richard e metzger eng 41 upholding the affirmative of the question defeated the negative team composed of stephen t lowry eng 41 and robert f koening met e 40 negative wins second debate in the second debate of the ev ening william h barnard eng 41 and stephen kowalyshyn jr eng 41 upholding the negative unanimously defeated wilson c hanline bus 39 and john t riley bus 41 judges for the debates were stanley v printz and john f stine allentown attorneys and j calvin callaghan director of de bating daniel q marshall m e 38 acted as chairman four debates scheduled for next week were announced by callag han the chemical
