faculty club mustard and cheese workshop will join in production the by-laws for the student chemistry foundation were com pletely revised and plans for a fresh man dance to be held on sub-fresh man day may 1 were made at the meeting of the freshman union on wednesday evening in drown hall whereas formerly two-thirds of the total amount contributed to the fund by freshmen was awarded to the senior chemistry student with the highest scholastic average the revision provides for the awarding of one fellowship of 600 to the most worthy senior chemistry stu dent regardless of the total amount collected award freshmen 600 six additional scholarships of 100 each will be awarded to the highest ranking freshman student taking chemistry in each of six course divisions the awards made in two 50 installments in the soph omore year will be made in the following groups the chemists and chemical engineers the electrical engineers and engineering physi cists the civil and the sanitary en gineers students present musicale for club shields directs program for women's group national historian will attend banquet dr friederich schonemann of the university of berlin germany will lecture tonight at 8 o'clock in room 466 packard laboratory his subject will be national socialism as a cultural movement the lecture is under the auspices of the international relations so ciety frederick e thalman arts 37 is president of the club although a native german dr schonemann has spent over a de cade in active teaching and investi gation in the united states in 1913 he taught in hunter college new york city and wesleyan university connecticut from 1913 to 1920 he held the position of visiting profes sor at harvard university cam bridge mass dr amos ashbach ettinger as sociate professor of history said yesterday if one of the major functions of a university be the pre sentation of the best thought of all nations then it is singularly appro priate that the international rela tions club of lehigh university should present to the citizens of the lehigh valley dr friederich schonemann was berlin lecturer for three decades and more dr schonemann has been a profound student of american history life and institutions and an interpreter of the united states and germany to each other dr schonemann's work in the main has not been in the field of politics rather he has devoted him self to the literary backgrounds of germany and the united states he was called as a special lec turer to the university of berlin on the history of american litera ture and civilization he organized the amerika-abteilung of the eng lish uhiversity seminar at the uni versity of berlin the senior class yesterday after noon decided that a plan for found ing a fund for the erection of a new armory annex should be presented to the alumni association for its ap proval and support this plan was propounded by w p fairbanks i e 37 who stated that a surplus of about 200 from the senior class treasury would be given to the association as the ini tial donation for the armory the cost of the annex will be close to 50,000 and thus the plan is tenta tive until the support of the alumni association is granted it has long been evident that a place is needed where lehigh dances can be conveniently held and also which would supply an ade quate stage and auditorium for le high productions stated fairbanks in his talk the coliseum is un suitable for dances as it is hot and dirty has a low ceiling and has no convenient parking areas plans submitted last year plans for a new armory were drawn up last year and submitted to president c c williams they are now in the hands of a new york achitect the building of the armory was postponed last year by the alumni association for it is be lieved that a new chemistry wing and a group of dormitories were more necessary - ' i many students were of the opin ion that the amount of 200 would be so trivial in the fund that it would do no good for their cause vincent pazzetti bus 37 president of the senior class appointed r e crispen ch e 37 the chairman of a committee to pursue the pos sibility of raising more funds from within the university by means of bonds another source of further funds suggested at the meeting was the voluntary subscription of mem bers of the senior class to the fund for a period of five years cornelius approves william a cornelius executive treasurer of the alumni association voiced his approval of the suggested plan at the meeting he then intro duced g c evans president of the alumni association whose opinion it was that the plan would be support ed by the association he also urg ed the seniors to join the alumni association and to attend the dinner on alumni day pazzetti stated it is not prob able that the armory will be started before the chemistry building is completed which will be in about two years william cornelius also announced that 70,000 of the 140,000 needed for the chemistry building has been promised the university workers sought society to send 4 to conference agreement to seek a merger of the lehigh union with arcadia and to include the interfraternity coun cil as part of the student council was decided upon in principle wed nesday afternoon at a meeting of 13 campus leaders the round table conference call ed by karl jacobi president of ar cadia the student council was composed of representatives from the interfraternity council the le high union arcadia omicron delta kappa senior honorary society the senior class and the brown and white while details of the plan have yet to be formulated before final submission for approval to the three undergraduate bodies affected and dean mcconn all present agreed that a more simple form of student government designed to modify and strengthen the present system is badly needed chairman jacobi in opening the meeting stressed the point that the problem of revising arcadia's pow ers is not arcadia's alone nor is this action designed to give one organization a political grasp on student government he declared would cut overlapping under the amalgamation plan now being drawn up jacobi pointed out the interfraternity council would not lose any of its prestige or power but merely have its admin istrative functions transferred to the student council duties of the lehigh union which would be merged with arcadia would merely be transferred to the student coun cil by this procedure those pres ent agreed overlapping of admin istrative work would be eliminated there would be more interest in ar cadia and the student council would assume a more important position in student affairs the movement to revise the pres ent constitution of arcadia which has led to this parley of organiza tion officers was started two weeks ago when jacobi as president of arcadia appointed charles mccoy gardner van dyne and robert bailey to consider changes another conference meeting to consider a detailed plan of reorganization association for it is be lieved that a new chemistry wing and a group of dormitories were more necessary - ' i many students were of the opin ion that the amount of 200 would be so trivial in the fund that it would do no good for their cause vincent pazzetti bus 37 president of the senior class appointed r e crispen ch e 37 the chairman of a committee to pursue the pos sibility of raising more funds from within the university by means of bonds another source of further funds suggested at the meeting was the voluntary subscription of mem bers of the senior class to the fund for a period of five years cornelius approves william a cornelius executive treasurer of the alumni association voiced his approval of the suggested plan at the meeting he then intro duced g c evans president of the alumni association whose opinion it was that the plan would be support ed by the association he also urg ed the seniors to join the alumni association and to attend the dinner on alumni day pazzetti stated it is not prob able that the armory will be started before the chemistry building is completed which will be in about two years william cornelius also announced that 70,000 of the 140,000 needed for the chemistry building has been promised the university workers sought society to send 4 to conference agreement to seek a merger of the lehigh union with arcadia and to include the interfraternity coun cil as part of the student council was decided upon in principle wed nesday afternoon at a meeting of 13 campus leaders the round table conference call ed by karl jacobi president of ar cadia the student council was composed of representatives from the interfraternity council the le high union arcadia omicron delta kappa senior honorary society the senior class and the brown and white while details of the plan have yet to be formulated before final submission for approval to the three undergraduate bodies affected and dean mcconn all present agreed that a more simple form of student government designed to modify and strengthen the present system is badly needed chairman jacobi in opening the meeting stressed the point that the problem of revising arcadia's pow ers is not arcadia's alone nor is this action designed to give one organization a political grasp on student government he declared would cut overlapping under the amalgamation plan now being drawn up jacobi pointed out the interfraternity council would not lose any of its prestige or power but merely have its admin istrative functions transferred to the student council duties of the lehigh union which would be merged with arcadia would merely be transferred to the student coun cil by this procedure those pres ent agreed overlapping of admin istrative work would be eliminated there would be more interest in ar cadia and the student council would assume a more important position in student affairs the movement to revise the pres ent constitution of arcadia which has led to this parley of organiza tion officers was started two weeks ago when jacobi as president of arcadia appointed charles mccoy gardner van dyne and robert bailey to consider changes another conference meeting to
