baseball team plays alumni a pictorial review of the men of 16 as they appeared at past reunions campus paper awarded prizes change rules for rushing president williams speaks to alumni association this morning impromptu talks given speaking to the members of the alumni association at their annual meeting this morning in the faculty room of the alumni memorial build ing president c c williams briefly reviewed the highlights of the past year in the field of education at le high the president briefly mentioned the changes that have taken place in the university since the death of dr nat emery late vice president of the university and the recent resig nation of a e buchanan alumni secretary who left lehigh to take a position with the dupont company mr williams mentioned that the freshman enrollment at lehigh cor responds favorably with the initial enrollment at other colleges and uni versities in the east he also stated that lehigh made another forward step this year with the appointment of dr neil carothers director of the college of business administra tion prof bradley stoughton di rector of the curriculum in metal lurgical engineering prof philip palmer director of the college of arts and science as deans of their respective colleges in concluding his talk this morn ning president williams mentioned the significance that independent education would have on affairs in the country president williams also spoke to the members of the alumni classes at the main alumni dinner last night in the hotel bethlehem this was an informal speech and was well re ceived by the alumni present the class of 1886 who are celebrating their 50th reunion this year were the guests of honor several impromptu greetings were given by men of the old guard from classes preceding 86 game called for 3 o'clock today old grads have a veteran nine this afternoon immediately fol lowing the alumni parade an all star baseball game will be held between the stars of yesteryear and the pres ent lehigh university baseball nine this game which will be the last for the adams coached men will be the first and probably the last for the alumni nine -• coach adams plans to use his varsity line up in the game this will be the second game in two days for the varsity they having played lafayette at easton yesterday eith er red imbt or susie connors will be tossing them in for the varsity although the alumni lineup is not definite it is expected that the fol lowing men will play mickey rice second base jerry o'leary short stop bob bennett third base cork o'keafe first base mike koman right field lefty brady center field and dixie walker will prob ably pitch the catcher and left fielder has not been named as yet by the alumni coaches oldtimer claims men of 16 could outdrink those of 36 to deliver commencement address here on june 9 in packer chapel class day is on june 8 dr walter a jessup president of the carnegie foundation for the advancement of teaching will de liver the commencement address at the sixty-eighth commencement ex ercises tuesday june 9 in the packer memorial chapel the academic procession of sen iors faculty and trustees will move from the alumni memorial building to the university chapel sunday for the baccalaureate sermon to be de livered by dr beardslee university chaplain the following day the board of trustees of the university will meet and at the same time the annual class day exercises will be held in the afternoon the president will hold a reception for the graduates and their families faculty alumni and friends the commencement exercises will begin tuesday with the academic procession to the chapel at this profram the university will award the degrees to the graduates and probably confer several honorary degrees new class cvip to be awarded to slim reese tonight at the 20th reunion ban quet of the class of 1916 slim reese will be awarded the class cup this cup was supposed to be awarded to the father of the first boy born to a member of the class since grad uation the cup has been awarded to two men a short time after 1916 george sawtelle put in a claim for the cup accordingly the cup was forwarded to him it traveled all over the country in his possession then morrie stout a local contractor put in a bid for the cup eventually it was proven that morrie's son was older than young sawt george then forwarded the cup from south america to stoutie now a short time ago it was re alized that slim's son robert wil liam now a member of the class of 39 was older than morrie's son since the original cup was so bat tered from its travels about the country it was decided to purchase a new one and present it to slim reese tonight at the reunion dinner o new march will be played lehigh's pride the prize-win ning new march by a n van vleck c e 08 is being arranged for the band and will be played pub licly today for the first time by the lehigh band morton sultzer e e 12 alumnus trustee is having the arrangement made announced rob ert f herrick 34 assistant editor of the alumni bulletin by raphael scoblionko reunion fest to be held at bethlehem club class of 1916 to celebrate 20th anniversary with dinner lunch to follow game bulletin to all members of the class of 1916 the 20th reunion dinner of the class will be held at the bethlehem club near new and market streets tonight at 7 o'clock the meet ing will be held in the east room on the first floor the members of the committee have tried to arrange a program for this afternoon and evening that will fill with joy the hearts of all loyal members of the class of 1916 after the novel advertising stunt carried off by the members of the class the entire body will march in the par ade to the ball field where the var sity of this year will battle it out with a team of seasoned old timers realizing that the ball game will arouse an abnormal thirst in all the spectators the committee has ar ranged for free refreshments to be served to all members of the class and their wives and kiddies this refreshment which will be non-alco holic punch and cookies will be passed out on the mezzanine of the hotel bethlehem at 4 p m this will enable the reunioners to cool off and to get better acquainted hotel to serve dinner at 6:30 p m if any of the ladies or children are hungry a regular dinner will be served in the main dining room of the hotel bethle hem the check for the dinners will be taken care of by the class as mentioned earlier in the story the men of 16 will adjourn to the bethlehem club at 7 p m where the 20th reunion banquet of the class will be held whitey carlson now mayor of montclair will act as toastmaster for the occasion paul ganey and jim keady will be pre sented as extemporaneous speakers a new class song will plaints sent in by fraternities was changed to state that the committee should consider those complaints a third revision provides that fra ternities may invite freshmen stay ing at other houses electric remem ber how bob used to be crazy about brown and white semi weekly wins all cups at convention making a clean sweep in the con tests the brown and white dele gation to the spring convention of the intercollegiate newspaper asso ciation held recently at the university of delaware returned to lehigh with the three cups offered for excellence of news editorials and local advertising this is the first time in the his tory of the association that any pa per has had possession of all three cups first place in the news con test was a tie between the brown and white and the temple univer sity news since the news had held the cup since the fall convention ac tual possession of the cup was given to the brown and white the names of both papers will be inscribed on the trophy harry c archer a journalism major and news manager of the brown and white was elected vice president of the association the other officers are david hepford dickinson president and miss priscilla alden west chester state teachers college secretary duquesne enters conference the duquesne university duke was elected to the association whose membership remained at 34 when the cooper union pioneer no long er in existence was suspended the fall convention of the association will be held at muhlenberg at a date to be determined later other papers who placed in the contests were advertising the red and black dedicate this issue of the brown and white to howard bosey reiter continued on page four the students of 1916 may well be proud of themselves from a mem ber of dear old 16 whose name un fortunately cannot be divulged it was learned that this class as well as the preceding classes could hold their beer and liquor a great deal better than the modern student in fact when it comes to drinking the writer was told we old students made you young fellows look like pikers we was tops modestly af firmed this unimpeachable source who for the sake of brevity shall be referred to as jim and what was more jim main tained we didn't drink any of this tom collins stuff that you fellows get hot under the collar about but we drank stuff with a powerhouse kick that was just like our foot ball team — not tom collins but coffee cocktails boston stringers and horses neck was what we drank yessir we was tops it was humbly remarked that the barrooms and saloons must have certainly done thriving business with the sons of 1916 jim in no un certain terms affirmed this conclu sion the manhattan hotel where joe kinney is at present and tall man's in allentown were the class of the time according to this loyal son that's where all the athletes and students went evidently in those days there was a difference between the athlete and student how about the professors this mighty adherent of bacchus was asked sure jim lehigh students choose times for morning the new york sun today stood out as the favorite new york news paper of lehigh students as the re sult of a survey made by the bus iness staff of the brown and white the evening newspaper with 209 votes was just one ahead of the new york times with 208 the sun however dominated its field by leading the world-telegram by 108 votes there were existence was suspended the fall convention of the association will be held at muhlenberg at a date to be determined later other papers who placed in the contests were advertising the red and black of the brown and white the evening newspaper with 209 votes was just one ahead of the new york times with 208 the sun however dominated its field by leading the world-telegram by 108 votes there were
