i.e 37 albert b schwarzkopf jr m e 37 and richard l schmoy er m e 37 the initiation will be followed by a banquet at 7:30 p m at the sun inn the society expects to have prof b h jennings associate pro fessor of mechanical engineering as a speaker 4 to attend i n a meeting miller ex-'37 hits thomas annual comprehensive for second year engineers to have 88 questions slide rules necessary sophomore engineering compre hensive examinations consisting of 88 questions and problems in ap plied mathematics physics and chemistry will be held thursday in packard auditorium the examina tions will be given in the following periods 8:10 a m to 10 a m 10:10 a m to 12 noon and 2 p m to 4 p m faculty members will grade the papers each man taking the same question on every paper grading will be posted at the en trances to the auditorium philadelphian fatally hurt by auto on hill to hill bridge saturday robert g miller formerly of the class of 37 struck arthur h thomas with a car and injured him fatally at 5 a m saturday morning on the third street ramp of the hill to hill bridge thomas of 1517 alcott st philadelphia died three hours later at st luke's hospital where miller took him miller was driving north on the ramp in a 1936 ford coupe when he hit thomas who was crossing the road miller and his compan ion merrill h wallace bus 38 took thomas to the hospital where it was found that he had a broken right leg and a fracture of the skull thomas was employed by the reading railroad miller was released by the police on a 2,500 bond pending the meet ing of the coroner's jury the left front fender the left side of the hood and the windshield of the car were damaged constitution considered the proposed constitution of the review was considered at a meeting of the board of presidency for 1937 will be in charge of the committee meeting merriman to speak before c e group company loans movie that describes manufacture rayon production a sound mo vie presented by the north amer ican rayon corporation was shown at the meeting of the industrial engineering society thursday eve ning in packard auditorium jay j merlein advertising man ager and richard c urban assis tant advertising manager of the company which sponsored the mo vie program explained the produc tion of rayon further after the mov ing pictures the progress of the various pro cesses in the manufacture of required to select the best squad in the section these squads will compete for the distinc tion of being the best squad in the regiment a platoon competition will follow the same general order tent pitching and extended order drill will complete the demonstra tions to award prizes prizes and awards will be pre sented the awards are as follows the association of the united states army cup and three streamers for company guidon to the company winning the inter-company rifle match the scabbard and blade cup and one streamer for company gui don to the company winning the platoon close order drill competi tion on field day the captain robert quail whit ten memorial cup to the winner of the freshman - sophomore rifle match the captain john k rice trophy to the winner of the inter class shoulder to - shoulder rifle match the veterans of foreign wars cup to the basic course stu dent having the highest aggregate rifle score in the kneeling and stand ing positions and sweater and let ters to the rifle team manager and to members of the rifle team placing among the best 5 in 30 per cent of shoulder-to-shoulder matches riflemen to get letters letters will be given to the var sity rifle team members who have participated in the required compe titions numerals to freshmen who have participated in the required competitions the army ordnance association gold medal to the sec ond year advance course ordnance student having the highest scholas tic standing and the most interest in ordnance affairs and scabbard and plade sabres to the second year advance course ordnance student and the second year advance course infantry student having the highest scholastic standing and leadership ratings a set of gold officers insignia awarded to one infantry and one ordnance second year advance course student for excellence in classroom work and general value to the r o t c unit gold watch charms awarded to one infantry and one ordnance first year advance course student one second year basic and one first year basis stu dent for excellence in classroom work and general value to the r o t c unit merit ribbons for ex cellence in classroom work and the society sons of american on the aims and activities of the society butterfield to return soon after crash injury thomas e butterfield professor of heat power engineering returned to his home on sunday after being confined to a hospital in havre de grace md since the easter vaca tion professor butterfield was serious ly injured as he was returning from langley field vir his automobile was forced from the road into a ditch the crash breaking several ribs he expects to return to classes within the next few weeks during his absence his classes are being taken by a w luce associate pro fessor of machine design and a w klein professor of mechanical en gineering solutions already devised for remaining conflicts in semester quizzes the registrar's office recently an nounced the scheduling of 234 ex aminations for the
