reports of student clubs were approved by the committee on student clubs at a re cent meeting four of these reports were held for advisement by the dean while the other three were not presented in time for consideration and approval these reports included the finan cial standing of all student organ izations and dormitory sections but not the social fraternities and pub lications dean mcconn stated that the four reports were not approved only be cause of minor matters that can eas ily be corrected by a conference with the treasurers of the respec tive organizations adds credits for ordnance to arrange for scholastic press convention a meeting of the committee on the interscholastic press conference was held late this afternoon to set the date for lehigh's third annual scholastic press conference at last year's conference held may 11 191 schools were represent ed by 600 delegates members of the brown and white staff assisted as leaders in round table discussions dr neil gave some advice and opinions as to how to avoid inflation the noted economist defined in flation as being a feverish and un natural rise of prices due to a mor bid condition in currency and credit he said it reduces the value of wages it wipes out savings and life insurance it eats up the life savings of the old it destroys will,s inheritances trusts endow ments universities and hospitals economists vindicated if the devaluation of the dollar had worked as the government had predicted prices would have in creased 65 per cent said dr car others however prices have risen only 10 per cent he stated strange ly enough it did not work the way the administration said it would or the inflation bloc in the senate said it would or the committee for the nation said it would it worked the way the economists said it would said dr carothers the economist said that this fu tile policy has left us first without a money system second with bloat ed bank reserves third with an end less expansion received bachelor's degrees in engineering are eligible for their engineering de grees after five years of work in their chosen fields this procedure of awarding de grees was passed by the university in 1930 the registrar's office is re ceiving requests concerning the ne cessary procedure in obtaining the awards the faculty granted permission to publish portions of the senior thesis of l brewer ch dur ing the next two weeks 10,000 educators attend st louis convention prof h p thomas head of the department of education returned from st louis last week where he spoke at the meetings of the na tional vocational guidance associa tion and the department of super intendence of the national educa tion association there were 10,000 registered for the latter convention coming from schools and colleges from all over the united states at the meeting of the national vocational guidance association professor thomas outlined the pro gram for the meeting he gave an evaluation on supervision versus personnel agencies in curriculum construction at the department of superintendence one of the highlights of the con vention from professor thomas's standpoint was a discussion on the difficulty college students have in reading this interested him be cause of the fact that t t lafferty an instructor in education is con ducting a test concerning this mat ter with freshmen who have failed nine or more hours goes to pittsburgh money to be used for chemistry research work over 60 freshmen taking elemen tary chemistry or qualitative analy sis have contributed their returns from chemistry dur ing the next two weeks 10,000 educators attend st louis convention prof h p thomas head of the department of education returned from st louis last week where he spoke at the meetings of the na tional vocational guidance associa tion and the department of super intendence of the national educa tion association there were 10,000 registered for the latter convention coming from schools and colleges from all over the united states at the meeting of the national vocational guidance association professor thomas outlined the pro gram for the meeting he gave an evaluation on supervision versus personnel agencies in curriculum construction at the department of superintendence one of the highlights of the con vention from professor thomas's standpoint was a discussion on the difficulty college students have in reading this interested him be cause of the fact that t t lafferty an instructor in education is con ducting a test concerning this mat ter with freshmen who have failed nine or more hours goes to pittsburgh money to be used for chemistry research work over 60 freshmen taking elemen tary chemistry or qualitative analy sis have contributed their returns from chemistry laboratory fees to the student chemistry foundation each student gives approximately 14 it is expected that 1,000 will be collected before the end of the semester says h v anderson as sociate professor of chemistry the money collected will be used to promote scientific research in the chemistry department to be carried on by two fellows one appointed each year for a two-year period as yet
