his address many colleges represented should i go to college can be decided by the answers to six ques tions said dean c m mcconn fri day evening at the upper darby high school fifteen hundred stu dents of the school and representa tives from muhlenberg cedar crest and 70 other colleges and universi ties heard the address the questions to be asked by par ents who are anxious to determine whether their children should con tinue study past high school or not follow 1 has he an i q in an intelli gence test such as binet otis or stanford of 115 or better 2 does he rank in the highest third of his high school 3 is he eighteen or younger at graduation this test does not ap ply if the reason for being older is extra-curricular . 4 has he a reading speed of least 200 words a minute 5 does he rank high in a vocab ulary test 6 does he have the dictionary habit the way to tell whether a stu dent has a degree of self-mastery is by answering these questions 1 does he get up in the morn ing by his own alarm clock 2 does he spend all his allow ance in the first day 3 does he do his homework with out being driven three suggestions were made for those who cannot pass the test they may either enter a school of design or art or go to a trade or vocational school or travel each alternative offers some education schreiner begins work on welds research fellow will make fritz laboratory tests norman a schreiiner american bureau of welding research fellow has begun research into the prob lem of fillet welds under loads which cause bending in fritz labor atory the problem has been set forth by the american bureau of weld ing as a result of the seat angle in vestigation which schreiner just completed the seat angle research showed several slight variables un accounted for though these did not detract from the results of this in vestigation the work will be done under pure bending where there is no sheering stress and also under bending caused by transverse loads accompanied by sheering stresses schreiner will use a series of 32 specimens ranging from 40 in by 10 in to 20 in by 11 in in size the specimens will be welded with bare and two types of coated wire elec trodes durability of metals in service several films on the manu facture of nickel and nickel alloys in plants of the international nick el company will be shown searle received a bachelor of sci ence degree the lehigh metallurgical so ciety at a special meeting friday afternoon called by professor brad ley stoughton and presided over by w a johnson 35 this decision was reached following an informal discussion by several members of the department and students officers were elected as follows j e braunberns 35 president g d ' rogers 36 vice president j k stone 36 secretary no treas urer was elected because the organ ization is planning to function with out dues or assessments the importance of getting good speakers was stressed by g b mc means 34 last year's president he outlined the either enter a school of design or art or go to a trade or vocational school or travel each alternative offers some education schreiner begins work on welds research fellow will make fritz laboratory tests norman a schreiiner american bureau of welding research fellow has begun research into the prob lem of fillet welds under loads which cause bending in fritz labor atory the problem has been set forth by the american bureau of weld ing as a result of the seat angle in vestigation which schreiner just completed the seat angle research showed several slight variables un accounted for though
