andrew buchanan alumni secretary wil liam sheridan wrestling coach austin tate former football coach and elbert b caraway and martin westerman of the coaching staff o p dyke 23 gave his annual rendition of parody of tomor row the southern anthracite lehigh club held its meeting friday eve ning in frackville paul calvert robert adams and john maxwell represented the uni versity at this meeting and dis cussed the present football situation other meetings of alumni clubs were held in southern california trenton and chicago discusses torsion ehasz describes soap film test to designers a discussion of the theoretical side of the application of film to solving torsional twisting and bend ing problems in structural members was given by francis l ehasz re search fellow in civil engineering last friday evening in fritz labora tory the audience included a dozen members of the designing depart ment of the mcclintic-marshall company the fritz laboratory staff and several members civil engineers made part of their annual three day in spection tour yesterday and today to fulfill their graduate require ments the group under prof har ry g payrow visited rockefeller center the empire state tower and the midtown tunnel yesterday morning a tugboat took the party on a tour of new york harbor an inspection of the new city piers was included in the ride these piers were erected to accom modate the queen mary and the normandie english and french ocean liners since both steamships are too large for any previously built dock in the afternoon the engineers went to radio city where three buildings are under construction after examining the construction details here the seniors studied the wind and vibration apparatus on the empire state tower these instru ments measure the direction and velocity of the wind and the sway of the building inspect bridge today the approaches towers and anchorages of the 44,000,000 triboro bridge were inspected while there the group went to the adjacent ward island site of the activated-sludge sewage plant being built by the city this afternoon they visited the new jersey side of the midtown tunnel which will connect 39th street and 11th avenue with wee hawken only one of the two pro posed tubes is under construction now the engineers descended a 31 foot shaft under compressed air to watch the shield-guard method of burrowing tomorrow the group will watch the work being done on the erection of an addition to the federal re serve bank they will also be shown the bank itself as well as the new york stock exchange they will end their in 1929 said it was great to be back again here with us to night we have the only lehigh coach to beat lafayette in 16 years he declared he's a darn good coach and in addition to that he's a wonderful gridiron was minus two goal posts for the first time since 1918 when lehigh last defeat ed the maroons ii easton the jinx was conquered and the engineers were triumphant rejoicing and cel ebration were dominant gloom and despair had vanished lehigh had defeated lafayette supporters could not believe their eyes nor their ears they still can't but lehigh has added one more victory to its records carlin and reidy were the lucky players chosen to carry the ball across the goal line these two men are not the only honored members of the squad all are surrounded with the halo of glory play last game five seniors played their last game for the brown and white the loss of all these men will be felt next year states coach harmeson although one of these players ock was hampered by an injured leg his play as well as his leadership was outstanding bill stallings who act ed as captain while ock was out of the game will always be remember ed as one of lehigh's outstanding ends stallings has been a bulwark of strength throughout the present campaign when he was injured on saturday and had to be removed from the game his ovation showed the feeling of regret which filled the hearts of his fellow students preston reidy and goodrich were the other seniors who enjoyed the pleasure of defeating lafayette reidy had the honor of scoring one of the touchdowns and adding the extra point although his work has been a bit spotty this past season he has fully redeemed himself by his performance in the past two games preston consistent - preston has been a consistent player all year he was especially strong this past week and receives the credit for blocking one of the lafayette punts in the first quarter goodrich has not seen much ser vice this year but he gave a splen did account of himself on satur day scobey was beyond a doubt the strongest man on the lehigh line lie was continually breaking through the maroon front wall and throwing their ball carriers espe cially stabley for a loss he cover ed punts as though he was an end scobey is a junior this year and is being counted upon by harmeson for next year mcnally and mccaa played the entire game as the brown and white guards these two players have been carrying the load in the center of the line in all of lehigh's games their work on saturday was enough to show that they have de served this distinction the rest of the lehigh line al though perhaps not as spectacular or effective in their play were a continual threat to the leopards mayshark played his best game of the year and was continually turn ing in end runs and breaking up lateral passes backs worked hard in the backfiefd peet mccoy carlin and pazzetti ( besides those already mentioned bore the brunt of the engineers attack peet's work was on a par with his other splendid performances this year his kicking along with that of fair banks was instrumental in keep ing the ball in lafayette's territory much of the time peet intercepted the maroon pass which led to ock speak harmeson ock and caraway represented the team which was quartered at stroudsburg harme son assured the student body that the team was ready caraway who has been scouting the lafayette team for several weeks declared that lafayette was good but that it had weaknesses producing a sheet of paper he said that the se cret weak points of the leopards were on the sheet and would be di vulged for metals at albright college reading last thursday on the topic invisible rays in mod ern engineering his talk was ac companied by slides illustrating the research and practical uses of these rays prof bradley stoughton head of the curriculum in metallurgical en gineering is chairman of the local section of the american society for metals and he presided at the meet ing of the lehigh valley gridiron was minus two goal posts for the first time since 1918 when lehigh last defeat ed the maroons ii easton the jinx was conquered and the engineers were triumphant rejoicing and cel ebration were dominant gloom and despair had vanished lehigh had defeated lafayette supporters could not believe their eyes nor their ears they still can't but lehigh has added one more victory to its records carlin and reidy were the lucky players chosen to carry the ball across the goal line these two men are not the only honored members of the squad all are surrounded with the halo of glory play last game five seniors played their last game for the brown and white the loss of all these men will be felt next year states coach harmeson although one of these players ock was hampered by an injured leg his play as well as his leadership was outstanding bill stallings who act ed as captain while ock was out of the game will always be remember ed as one of lehigh's outstanding ends stallings has been a bulwark of strength throughout the present campaign when he was injured on saturday and had to be removed from the game his ovation showed the feeling of regret which filled the hearts of his fellow students preston reidy and goodrich were the other seniors who enjoyed the pleasure of defeating lafayette reidy had the honor of scoring one of the touchdowns and adding the extra point although his work has been a bit spotty this past season he has fully redeemed himself by his performance in the past two games preston consistent - preston has been a consistent player all year he was especially strong this past week and receives the credit for blocking one of the lafayette punts in the first quarter goodrich has not seen much ser vice this year but he gave a splen did account of himself on satur day scobey was beyond a doubt the strongest man on the lehigh line lie was continually breaking through the maroon front wall and throwing their ball carriers espe cially stabley for a loss he cover ed punts as though he was an end scobey is a junior this year and is being counted upon by harmeson for next year mcnally and mccaa played the entire game as the brown and white guards these two players have been carrying the load in the center of the line in all of lehigh's games their work on saturday was enough to show that they have de served this distinction the rest of the lehigh line al though perhaps not as spectacular or effective in their play were a continual threat to the leopards mayshark played his best game of the year and was continually turn ing in end runs and breaking up lateral passes backs worked hard in the backfiefd peet mccoy carlin and pazzetti ( besides those already mentioned bore the brunt of the engineers attack peet's work was on a par with his other splendid performances this year his kicking along with that of fair banks was instrumental in keep ing the ball in lafayette's territory much of the time peet intercepted the maroon pass which led to
