By JESS FROMM The football team will hold its fourth annual bone marrow donor registry event tomorrow in Lamberton Hall from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., registering donors into the National Marrow Donor Program’s “Be The Match” Registry. The registration involves four simple swabs of your cheek to determine if you are a potential match for one of the 10,000 people currently in need of bone marrow. “The perception about donating [marrow] is a little off. People get intimidated, but if you’re a match it’s just a simple blood transfusion in most cases,” said Roseann Corsi, the public relations coordinator with Lehigh Athletics who is helping to organize the event. Donnie Roberts, the football team’s co-defensive coordinator/defensive line coach who is also helping to organize the event, added, “The way they extracted marrow in the past scares people, but it’s a much different process now. We don’t want t intimidate anyone, and we want everyone to know that even if you’re a match, you still have the choice of whether you want to donate.” This year, the registry event will hit especially close to home for the Lehigh community. The football program is teaming with Adam Hyncik, a former Lehigh basketball captain and 2007 graduate whose mother, Marilyn Hyncik, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2006. Derby Days is an event held by most Sigma Chi chapters internationally and benefits their national philanthropy: Huntsman Cancer Institute. Each sorority was paired with two Sigma Chi brothers who were with the houses throughout the process. The different events included a dance competition on Wednesday, a dodgeball tournament on Thursday and powderpuff football game on Friday. Pi Beta Phi claimed the title for the dance competition while Delta Gamma secured the win for the dodgeball and powderpuff tournaments. Campus faculty members Jessi McPherrin, assistant director of Greek life, and Dr. Thomas Novak, associate director of the health center, were asked to help judge the dance competition that took place in Packard 101.
