photo by john connor news writer lehigh's 20 fraternities were renovated this summer because they had fallen into unaccept able condition according to ozzie breiner director of resi dential services upkeep of the fraternities is a priority because they are assets at lehigh and owned by the uni versity breiner said the total cost of the renova tion was nearly 3.5 million gary falasca director of facili ties services said when university trustees toured greek housing in 2003 they called for extensive renova tions to all fraternities a greek life task force was formed after the trustees expressed their con cern falasca explained the role of the task force in the renovation the task force addressed the need for physical correction and lifestyle modifications to prevent damage from recurring falasca said this summer's work is a step in the process all fraternity bedrooms and connecting hallways were reno vated new flooring was installed walls ceilings and doors were repaired and paint ed and furniture was fixed or replaced nine houses received new stainless steel kitchen cabinets extra single bedrooms were cre ated in some of the houses windows were repaired and replaced living and dining room flooring installed exterior stair cases and terraces repaired and electrical wiring systems replaced in some houses the cost of the renovations to fraternity bedrooms and connecting hallways were renovated this summer as part of a 3.5 million proj ect to improve the 20 lehigh-owned fraternities chi psi underwent renovations that cost 1.6 million greeks mix fun and philanthropy to raise money for hurricane relief by jayne carapezzi news editor this weekend greeks will dunk eat dance and spike to help raise money for the american red cross hurricane relief fund dunk greeks for 3 alpha omicron pi and delta tau delta will host a dunk-tank booth friday from 11 a.m to 5 p.m on the university center lawn ticket vouchers will be sold in the upper uc on thursday and friday from 11 a.m to 4 p.m students can buy a 3 voucher which will get them three balls or a 4 voucher for five balls brothers from delts and sisters from aopi will be get ting dunked what better way to raise money for a great cause than to dunk fraternity brothers and sorority sisters lan douglass 07 said laura higgins 07 has vol unteered to sit in the dunk tank i'm all for it higgins said i'm very excited i signed up for multiple shifts delts brother matt diana 06 said many people will benefit from the event anytime you can put a positive spin on such a tragedy by getting together a plethora of people having fun everybody will have some thing to gain including the cause at hand diana said dance and eat at theta chi sigma alpha mv theta chi pi beta phi and alpha phi will also host a dance party and eating fest on friday night from 10:30 p.m to 1 a.m at theta chi the community service chairman of sigma alpha mv scott goodman 07 said he's happy to see students uniting to benefit the hurricane relief efforts it's great to see the cam pus coming together to sup port such a worthy cause goodman said students will be asked to make a 3 donation at the door in return for pizza from campus pizza and other food prepared by the theta chi chef soda and water will also be offered at the event attendees will have the opportunity to sign a banner with messages of hope which will later be sent to louisiana with a member of greek affairs who will be transport ing other letters of inspiration compete in volleyball tourney kappa alpha will hold a volleyball tournament on the lawn outside its house sunday at noon each team will be com posed of four players and will be charged 10 per person to play the winners will receive a 100 gift certificate to the apollo grill patrick lyons 07 of kappa alpha encouraged supporters to watch and donate to the cause anyone should come up even if they don't want to play lyons said they can at least hang out and barbe cue all food at the event will be paid for by the university brodhead restaurant night gets slow start with 11 diners by madelyn king news writer the traditional buffet-style brodhead house dining hall experience has been trans formed into the brodhead bistro for a weekend dining experience but it received low participation in its first weekend only 11 students sat down to dinner between friday and saturday night brodhead is able to seat 70 to 75 guests at one time dining services attributes b&w photo by amy deufsch the empty house to the begin ning of the academic year but hopes restaurant night at brodhead will soon catch on it is a program to offer meal plan participants a more upscale variation to a student restaurant meal dining services unit supervisor tom glick said the three-course meal is
