poor scholarship - last term was 25 as compared with 40 a year ago the dean stated of the sophomores juniors and seniors in good standing for the first semester 120 were placed on probation for the second semesters both in 1931 and 1932 eighteen freshmen were dropped for poor scholarship and 48 were placed on scholastic probation these figures are about the same as those a year ago the total number of men dropped from school was 43 this year as com pared with 56 last year according to dean mcconn every progressive thinker is troubled by the fact that we are ef fectively imprisoned by acquired habits and predispositions said dr j l graham assistant professor of psychology at the fifth faculty lecture in packard auditorium last night psychology is undergoing a great many changes in all its schools to day said doctor graham in the hegelian school progress is seen to come from early habits that are not removed but are revised he pointed out in the last quarter of the 19th century said doctor graham our youth were nurtured in the sentiment what a noble work is man today we have lost that con fidence and consider such a view of man a glorious illusion function alism behaviorism ing men is correspondingly small business has gradually picked up and hence the demand for men trained in engineering work and other subjects taught in colleges far exceeds the supply therefore i predict that in about four years you men will start a rapid rise to the top stopping only where your native ability has reached its ca pacity mr eschbach drew this conclusion from a study of gradu ates of colleges and universities over a long period of time he pre sented by means of slides facts and figures showing the position in life and financial income of all the men in a t & t and pointed out that in the upper seventh of society about 50 per cent were held by engineers this percentage is increasing all the time said mr eschbach and in a few more years the upper seventh will be composed eastern intercollegiate wrestling association championships held at syracuse last friday and saturday the lehigh grapplers won the championship for the fourth time in the past five years lehigh scored 29 points to place first in the championships the brown arid white wrestlers won three individual titles two second places and one third place besides scoring seven points on falls cor nell and syracuse tied for second place with 17 points princeton gar nered 12 points to place third while perm state followed with 9 penn sylvania 8 and columbia and yale 6 apiece meixell places third the preliminary matches were held friday afternoon with five le high matmen wirining their individual bouts meixell was unfortunate in ' being paired with sumner forward of syracuse in the 118 lb division the lehigh grappler was a little on edge as he was wrestling in his first intercollegiate bout the syra cuse champion finally threw meix ell with a bar and chancery in 8:45 forward went through the matches undefeated to win the championship in that class thus giving meixell a chance to wrestle for the second and third places in the bouts for second place meixell displayed the best form of his career to throw captain mai?e of perm state with a bar and chancery in 1 sb queneau of cornell who was de f(_ated in the finals defeated meix ell for second place but the lehigh grappler came back to defeat de laney of princeton for third place thus scoring two points for the brown and white matmen opposition presses dalling bob dalling wrestling against the toughest competition of any class triumphed in every bout to carry off the laurels in the 126 lb class the lehigh star had trouble in defeating gurney of princeton in the semi-finals the bout went to extra periods and the brown and white matman won with a time ad vantage of i 4s in the final bout dalling easily defeated ellstrom of penn state with a time advantage of 8:58 the lehigh grappler was the aggressor throughout and had ellstrom constantly on the defense champion frank shaw again re peated his success of last year in winning the 135 lb championship the lehigh champion was easily the outstanding man of the meet winning every bout on falls and scoring eight points for the brown and white shaw showed his best form in the semi-finals when he threw fenimore of columbia with a short arm scissors in his final bout shaw threw anderson of syracuse in the first period in 2:44 and almost had anderson pinned at the end of the second period bishop wins easily ben bishop crashed through in great style to win the champion ship in the 145 lb class bishop showed the crowd more holds than they thought of when he easily de eated hendry of columbia in the reliminaries with a time advantage of 7:33 in the semi-finals bishop hrew lorenzo of perm state with an inside crotch hold and reverse hancery in 6:45 captain butter worth of cornell met bishop in the inal bout and walked off the mat a adly beaten man the cornell aptain slipped bishop into a cross ody ride but the lehigh star al most threw him with his own hold iishop easily broke the hold and unished the cornell grappler to win with a time arm scissors in his final bout shaw threw anderson of syracuse in the first period in 2:44 and almost had anderson pinned at the end of the second period bishop wins easily ben bishop crashed through in great style to win the champion ship in the 145 lb class bishop showed the crowd more holds than they thought of when he easily de eated hendry of columbia in the reliminaries with a time advantage
