the brown and white vol 109 no 15 lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 tuesday october 30 2001 all the lehigh news first greeks celebrate halloween by amanda macmillan news writer members of various fraterni ties and sororities joined together last week to sponsor halloween parties for children in the bethlehem community one party was wednesday in lower grace hall sponsored by kappa alpha theta sorority six sororities and three fraternities attended alpha phi sorority also hosted a party at its house thursday for children of gradu ate students and faculty sigma alpha mv fraternity the graduate student council residential services and office of international education also held a halloween event wednesday at saucon village nicole delauro 02 presi dent of theta said she orga nized theta's event to improve relationships within lehigh's greek system and between the greek system and the outside community while providing a safe and enjoyable activity for children theta extended an invitation to the fountain hill elementary holy infancy and holy child schools they also included the b&wphoto by liz condaxis campus daycare center and the boys and girls club of bethlehem an e-mail was also sent to all faculty members inviting them to bring their children delauro sent announcements to every fraternity and sorority inviting them to participate in the fair the sororities that responded were alpha omicron pi alpha gamma delta delta gamma and alpha chi omega while the par ticipating fraternities were sigma phi epsilon phi delta theta and chi phi the interfraternity and a local child decorates a pumpkin in saucon village at a halloween party sponsored by several campus organizations it was one of three parries held last week planned partly by lehigh greeks nealon brings laughs to family weekend by amanda gontarz managing editor a sold out crowd filled grace hall saturday to see kevin nealon of saturday night live fame perform his comedy show for the family weekend event sponsored by university productions nealon performed his trademark characters of hans and frans and the weekend update anchorman for lehigh students and their fam ilies he also picked a few members out of the audience to use as subjects for his comedic sketches choosing a lehigh father as the guest for a made-up talk show nealon made fun of the way these shows always break to commercials just before a guest is about to reveal crucial information rob motch 02 said he thought nealon would have been funnier if he hadn't toned down his material it would have been better if he didn't have to make it pg 13 motch said i'm guessing he had better material but he couldn't use it because of parents weekend brian lenhart 04 up marketing chair said nealon was not only a good per former but a friendly person he was extremely person able he actually hung out after the show and he met my family lenhart said the show like all up events was produced entirely by stu dents weekend filled with activity by amy cohen news editor normal weekend plans for lehigh students were altered by a visit from paients siblings and other relatives during family weekend friday through sunday hotels and restaurants throughout bethlehem were booked to capacity with reserva tions from family members coming to visit lehigh students family members were able to attend class friday they also attended open houses at the office of international education to ask questions about study abroad parents stopped by career services to find out what fortune 500 companies will be recruiting at lehigh the career services student panel dis cussed successful career-related experiences and demonstrated lucie lehigh's online job searching system at the student affairs open house friday family members b&wphoto by jane berman students take their families on a tour of the campus the weekend offered a variety of activities for students and families see halloween page 5 see family page 7 | sports %. amw ' sss_l i news inside b;r3|]m|tj|jwitsrs»^h h l^&t 1h^taait r\^b hi | science |
