the brown and white vol 109 no 3 tuesday september 11 2001 all the lehigh news first panhel sends raffle winner to fla by renata gagnon news writer the panhellenic council sent a student and his friend to ft lauderdale fla at its second annual suitcase party friday jon trenkle 02 won the trip and chose to take his friend ross hurwitz 01 with him participants in the raffle bought tickets and were expected to go to the party packed and ready to leave for ft lauderdale in case they won a white limousine was waiting to take trenkle and hurwitz to the lehigh valley international airport to catch their flight the trip covered all expenses except for food trenkle was one of the few ticket buyers who showed up with a packed bag dawn rocky 04 won a 150 ticketmaster gift certificate she was one of just three people able to collect their prize at the event as the other 10 winners were not present in between the drawings for the prizes three comedians sponsored by university productions performed for the crowd the first comedian aman harris has appeared on bet and comedy central b&wphoto by amanda strickler students enjoy a up-sponsored comedian at the panhellenic suitcase party on the uc front lawn housing project begins by marcus powell work has begun on campus square a 24.5 million project that will add housing for 250 students lehigh says the project is expected to be completed by the end of next semester campus square will also add parking larger bookstore campus square serves several functions smeaton said " it will provide guaranteed housing to students as well as be the kind of living space that stu dents prefer to reside in the campus master planning communications and advisory committee reviewed the plans and drafts for campus square the chair of this committee is anthony corallo associate vice president of facilities planning and renovation corallo is working with the contractors on construction of campus square corallo said he is pleased with the development thus far progress is going very well corallo said the garage is already up and operating and news writer lehigh is working to guarantee housing for students provide more parking upgrade the book store and become more involved with the bethlehem community through the campus square project the 24.5 million campus square project will transform morton street into a plaza that mainly consists of an apartment complex these student apartments will accommodate a total of 250 undergraduates vice provost john smeaton hopes students will appreciate the new townhouses the rest of the plaza should be complete by the end of summer next year before the project began corallo received a residential environment report that indi cated a strong need for more student housing on campus according to associate director of residential services ozzie breiner the housing lottery process produces a significant number of waiuisted students as a result these students move into special interest housing fraternity and sorority houses or they simply move off campus campcac member mark b&wphoto by chrissy richter fall from balcony results in injuries by tracey lomrantz bevin milavsky assistant news editor and contributing editor an incident involving a lehigh student falling off of a balcony at phi delta theta fra ternity occurred early sunday morning during a party at the house vice provost of student affairs john w smeaton released the following statement regarding the incident a lehigh student was injured sunday morning and admitted to the hospital an investigation into this matter is currently being conducted by the university police smeaton said he is not at liberty to comment on the student's injuries because the situation is a medical matter that is also under police investiga tion the police report on the inci dent was not available at press time on sunday evening the student is not a resident of the house he lives off campus according to witnesses the student was taken to the hospi tal by ambulance after enduring the fall from a height of approx imately 30 feet liam weiner 03 a brother of phi delt declined to comment on the details of this incident and said other brothers are also refusing to comment on the matter because of insurance reasons see suitcase page 4 see campus page 4 am 1 field hockey loses 2-1 in overtime to cornell university see page 13 sports 12-16 golf 14 crosscountry 16 lembo feature 16 student senate is 12 members stronger with freshman senator elections see page 5 news 1-5 college news briefs 2 up till dawn 3 bethlehem briefs 5 is intel banking on consumer ignorance see page 7 science 7-9 science briefs 7 std awareness 9 in the adult human body there are 46 miles of nerves source:http;//members.aol.com/wo rldoflajselesss.html
