united states the gridiron banquet held each spring in washington by the national press club has long been famous numbering among its guests and victims the country's great men over 100 students students especially those who did not attend the first banquet last year do not under stand exactly what a gridiron ban quet is according to phil davis chairman of the banquet commit tee he has decided therefore to extend the time for mailing accep tances to friday april 17 the or iginal time limit expired yesterday approximately 300 invitations have been sent to prominent fac ulty members friends of the uni versity and undergraduates about 200 of this number were mailed to undergraduates only f leading stu dents in campus affairs are asked to attend the banquet not for football stars for the benefit of those students who think the affair is a glorifica tion of the pigskin heroes it must be reported that a gridiron banquet no definite arrangements announced for an nual soph dinner years the faculty decided at a meeting yesterday aft ernoon a new type of examination has been approved on the recom mendation of a faculty committee the 1931 golf schedule and the freshman football schedule for next fall were accepted and new eligibil ity rules proposed by the board of control of athletics were approved the dates for the annual military inspection were set for may 4 and 5 the results of the psychological examinations giyen to the lehigh freshmen were also published exams begin at 8 a m comprehensive examinations will begin at 8 a m to 12:00 p.m and from 2 p m to 5 p m it is to be taken by all men with second sem ester sophomore standing the morning examination will consist of 80 questions based on chemistry mathematics and physics formulat ed by the eight engineering depart ments with the approval of the three so-called service departments the afternoon quiz will be made and given by the various engineer ing departments to students elect ing that particular curriculum upon the results of these examinations together with class grades and in dividual estimations of each stu dent will depend the official advis ory action made by the faculty it was announced that the follow ing regulation had been repealed by the board of control of athletics under certain conditions the playing of summer baseball does not render a student ineligible to represent the university in intercol legiate contests provided the board of control has knowledge of the conditions and gives its approval pass new rule the following rule also passed by the board of control was an nounced no student who at mid-semester is deficient in courses totalling nine hours or more may during the re mainder of the semester represent the university in any intercollegiate sport whose first years the faculty decided at a meeting yesterday aft ernoon a new type of examination has been approved on the recom mendation of a faculty committee the 1931 golf schedule and the freshman football schedule for next fall were accepted and new eligibil ity rules proposed by the board of control of athletics were approved the dates for the annual military inspection were set for may 4 and 5 the results of the psychological examinations giyen to the lehigh freshmen were also published exams begin at 8 a m comprehensive examinations will begin at 8 a m to 12:00 p.m and from 2 p m to 5 p m it is to be taken by all men with second sem ester sophomore standing the morning examination will consist of 80 questions based on chemistry mathematics and physics formulat ed by the eight engineering depart ments with the approval of the three so-called service departments the afternoon quiz will be made and given by the various engineer ing departments to students elect ing that particular
