strength as demonstrated in its dual meet with lehigh last weak by placing third with 14 points one ahead of yale while the other teams scored in the . following order syracuse 11 perm 6 perm state 5 and princeton 4 the most exciting bout of the en tire tournament was pete peck's championship match with donald hooker of princeton in hooker peck met an opponent whp tested his brilliant technique to the limit and his victory was due in large measure to his superior endurance peck finally pinned his man just two seconds before the end of the second extra period when hooker collapsed the princeton wrestler probably 1 came closer to marring peck's unblemished record than has any opponent in the past wrestl ing fans had talked about this bout even before the preliminaries start ed and the roar which greeted the announcement of the bout indicated the expectations of the crowd peck however was favored slight hooker gains lead hooker obtained an immediate advantage when he took his oppon ent to the mat for over a minute of the fight holding him underneath for over a minute peck struck his head against the gymnasium floor as hooker rushed him to the mat stunning himself so badly that aft er a yew minutes of wrestling he sank to the mat while time was called for the remainder of the regular bout he was forced to ex ert all his energy to wipe out hook er's advantage peck's rally was sufficient however and at the close of the period he had hooker in a dangerous grip lehigh supporters took heart as the judges called for two extra per iods since peck appeared to be fresher than his opponent he chose the defensive working loose in a very short time as they shoved each other about the mat hooker fell to the , floor injuring himself more severely than peck had hurt himself a few minutes before he rallied however and held peck eff for the remaining three minutes peck gains fall hooker got up from underneath even more quickly than peck had using a simple elbow roll to re verse his position — a hold to which peck has succumbed several times this season however the lehigh wrestler went at hooker with in creased vigor after this he took him to the mat twice applying sev eral punishing holds which so weak ened hooker that he remained un conscious on the mat after the ref eree tapped peck for the pin hooker had to be carried off and it was reported that he was not re vived for ten rriimates later he for feited his bout for second place peck too was assisted from the mat the intense excitement which pre vailed during the bout was accen tuated by the speed with which the grapplers fought f^st as peck is he could never move quickly enough to get around hooker al continued on page three lehigh's three intercollegiate champions bethlehem pa tuesday march 17 1931 vol strength as demonstrated in its dual meet with lehigh last weak by placing third with 14 points one ahead of yale while the other teams scored in the . following order syracuse 11 perm 6 perm state 5 and princeton 4 the most exciting bout of the en tire tournament was pete peck's championship match with donald hooker of princeton in hooker peck met an opponent whp tested his brilliant technique to the limit and his victory was due in large measure to his superior endurance peck finally pinned his man just two seconds before the end of the second extra period when hooker collapsed the princeton wrestler probably 1 came closer to marring peck's unblemished record than has any opponent in the past wrestl ing fans had talked about this bout even before the preliminaries start ed and the roar which greeted the announcement of the bout indicated the expectations of the crowd peck however was favored slight hooker gains lead hooker obtained an immediate advantage when he took his oppon ent to the mat for over a minute of the fight holding him underneath for over a minute peck struck his head against the gymnasium floor as hooker rushed him to the mat stunning himself so badly that aft er a yew minutes of wrestling he sank to the mat while time was called for the remainder of the regular bout he was forced to ex ert all his energy to wipe out hook er's advantage peck's rally was sufficient however and at the close of the period he had hooker in a dangerous grip lehigh supporters took heart as the judges called for two extra per iods since peck appeared to be fresher than his opponent he chose the defensive working loose in a very short time as they shoved each other about the mat hooker fell to the , floor injuring himself more severely than peck had hurt himself a few minutes before he rallied however and held peck eff for the remaining three minutes peck gains fall hooker got up from underneath even more quickly than peck had using a simple elbow roll to re verse his position — a hold to which peck has succumbed several times this season however the lehigh wrestler went at hooker with in creased vigor after this he took him to the mat twice applying sev eral punishing holds which so weak ened hooker that he remained un conscious on the mat after the ref eree tapped peck for the pin hooker had to be carried off and it was reported that he was not re vived for ten rriimates later he for feited his bout for second place peck too was assisted from the mat the intense excitement which pre vailed during the bout was accen tuated by the speed with which the grapplers fought f^st as peck is he could never move quickly enough to get around hooker al continued on page three lehigh's three intercollegiate champions bethlehem pa tuesday march 17 1931 vol
