the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 friday march 16 2007 all the lehigh news first johnny's bagels opening eatery on campus soon by ava miller vol 114 no 37 â– the addition of johnny's is just one of the changes expected for campus square news writer johnny's bagels and deli will open a second location in cam pus square to replace pastaficio by early april johnny's bagels is a lunch and breakfast cafe owned by john zohir and his wife and is located on main street in north bethlehem zohir said he was looking forward to opening a location closer to lehigh i've been waiting for a place to become available near the campus for a couple of years he said johnny's bagels will open in early april to accommodate stu dents graduating this may after the semester the restaurant will close for renovations and will reopen in august zohir said he plans to add a fireplace a fish tank televi sions couches internet access a lounge area and a section for lehigh students to display their artwork on the walls i want the restaurant to be a fun place where the kids can go to study read or to just take their minds off of school zohir said about 40 percent of zohir's current customers are lehigh students he said the new cam pus square location will be more convenient for students zohir said johnny's bagels sells an ar ray of breakfast and lunch items smoothies coffee cappuccinos and desserts the restaurant also caters and delivers for large parties johnny's bagels is special because i encourage my cus tomers to sit and enjoy the atmosphere instead of leaving immediately after eating zohir said it is more than just a busi ness i want my customers to feel like family brynn buskirk marketing specialist for the lehigh office of business services said he thought johnny's would be a good fit johnny's bagels and deli is the right restaurant to join campus square buskirk said because it has a great track record for providing excellent food and beverages a menu with diverse appeal and a real desire to become an integral part of the lehigh and south side communities jazzman's cafe which is owned by sodexho will also be moving out of campus originally constructed in 1877 will unveil renovations on monday in a grand opening ceremony at 8:30 a.m check for an exclusive first look deans say faculty's survey results remain inconclusive christie jephson assistant news editor nearly 38 percent of faculty responded in a survey that they observed conduct that may interfere with one's abil ity to work and 16 percent ex perienced conduct interfering with work but several deans and faculty said they were still waiting on more information about alleged problems before they act the campus climate sur vey was administered to the lehigh community between october and november 2006 the survey focused on climate issues such as whether or not respondents observed or ex perienced hostile intimidating or offensive behavior and how it affected their ability to work and learn at lehigh said sue rankin a senior research associate at rankin & associ ates consulting after the presentation of the findings one stood out the apparent class issues with in faculty and staff at lehigh participation sixty percent or 264 mem bers of all full-time faculty re sponded to the climate survey the response rate at lehigh was the highest for faculty at any of the institu tions i have worked with to date rankin said in survey research anything over 30 percent is considered general izable to the entire population of the constituent group although the participation rate overwhelmingly exceeded that amount ranking said people need to consider there may still be a bias kappa sigma fraternity appeals charter decision by mark zara news writer when two fraternities lost their houses this janu ary it was welcome news to two sororities who seemed to be the most likely occupants for the soon to-be vacated houses but with the possibility of an appeal for kappa sigma fraternity's eviction it is unclear if both soror ities will be occupying the two houses come august kappa sig still has one last chance to regain its charter several weeks before spring break the univer sity learned of kappa sig's ability to appeal the deci sion passed by the supreme executive council kappa sig has since submitted its appeal and is awaiting a final decision which may come as late as april 21 the two sororities currently without a house on the hill alpha chi omega and pi beta phi were selected by the space planning committee as the first two choices to fill the vacancies in the alpha chi rho and kappa sig houses vice provost john smeaton cited the university's commitment to sororities and adherence to the strengthening greek life initiative as reasons for this decision both houses were vacated following problems that led to crow and kappa sig's eviction this january crow had its residential privileges revoked by the university because of occupancy violations but is still a recognized fraternity at lehigh i n an unrelated decision kappa sig's charter was revoked also in january by the supreme executive council of kappa sig because of violations of their code of conduct achio and pi phi are next in line to move on the hill but it is possible that both will not be on the hill come august the university and kappa sig were informed by the national headquarters that kappa sig had two weeks to vacate the house and the university acted swiftly and accordingly an alumnus of kappa sig came forward weeks later however and
