lehigh university brown and white volume 67 — number 20 friday december 9 1955 lehigh university bethlehem pa lotke booted out of arcadia by 10-1 vote because of failure to maintain and fulfill arcadia attendance regula tions philip m lotke 58 was auto matically ousted from the student organization last wednesday eve ning by a vote of 10 to 1 arcadia recognized the fact that lotke accumulated more than the one unexcused cut allowed by membership regulations and was therefore dropped from arcadia and his place vacated according to the by-laws of the constitution any duly filled office may be declared vacant upon failure to maintain membership standing with a total of three unexcused ab sences arcadia felt that lotke ful filled the requirement and thus took proper action arcadians were reminded of the policy set forth earlier in the year by f bruce waechter president which asserted that requests for excused absences were to be submit ted in writing prior to the meeting vice-president william zeiter 56 presented a draft of the general finance act which con tains a codified motion intended to govern all arcadia funds the plan was tabled until the next meeting robert haltenhoff secretary is presently preparing a letter of invi tation to various lehigh alumni or ganizations with the intention of having as many alumni as possible visit the campus on a designated date to particpiate in a discussion between student leaders and uni versity officials the plan calls for the discussion and stating of student problems with the intention of obtaining various views and solutions medieval gals anything but pedestaiized by our women's editor the 20th century american atti tude toward womankind — that of pedestalization — was injured some say drinking will result i am against a drinking ban be cause students don't get a chance to handle their own affairs and it makes cheats out of the men who re port on their parties we at lehigh should appreciate our drinking laws which are very liberal as compared to most schools dr grunbaum spoke on the new cooperative plan to bring lecturers to the university this plan would unite the funds of many organiza tions to bring outstanding speakers to lehigh at present no one group has the resources to bring the de sired speakers here he stated in requesting ifc support for the plan dr grunbaum said no one organization has the money to bring these lecturers organizations should pool re sources to invite well known lecturers this new plan will not compete with scl because it sponsors mostly entertainment programs the new group could guarantee each organization at candidates dicuss issues to give the student body a chance to judge the qualifications of candi dates in next week's arcadia elec tions the brown and white ques tioned them as to their stand on campus issues responses to two of the ques tions are printed in this issue others will appear in tuesday's issue with platforms activities and other information about the candidates one of the major problems is stu dent parking most of the candidates took the stand that new parking lots should be constructed and existing ones reorganized in order to take advantage of all available space following are the answers of the 22 candidates on the parking prob lem ed bartlett 58 advocate im provement — would look into possi bility of using university property for parking nelson l bond jr pete 57—1 see no solution to this problem as long as the campus is crowded with vehicles of various construction companies william a collins 57—1 fully concur with the recommendations of the campus committee which have been presented to the administration concerning parking on lower cam pus if any further cut is needed in dormitory parking i advocate that it be on a scholastic average basis in general parking regulations should be more strictly enforced paul j flynn 58 taylor hall presents the biggest parking prob lem the space opposite the tempos might be filled in to provide this parking space ray farkas 57—an immediate solution is to permit some student parking on what are now faculty parking lots on the lower campus since the lots are rarely if ever filled for the future the tempos are soon to be torn down — this spot should be made into a student park ing lot peter frank 57 during the last session of arcadia a survey was made to see if there were any feasi ble plans to increase the parking fa cilities for students the results of this survey showed that by making packer aye one-way with diagonal parking the amount of
