lehigh university bro wn and white volume 67—number 6 tuesday october 11 1955 university 6-3301 parents lunch visit new hc uncertain weather prevailed last weekend as our campus played host to over 3500 parents the large turnout caused ac commodation problems in local hotels as well as in parking lots large numbers arrived friday night and were able to hear gen carlos p romulo speak other par ents were welcomed to saturday the parents were received by president martin d whitaker vice president e kenneth smiley deans wray h congdon byron c hayes and john d leith and members of the faculty at a luncheon in grace hall they were served roast beef sandwiches cole slaw and coffee bucknell vs lchigh became the target of our guests atten tion after the luncheon fraternity houses and residence halls entertained the parents after the game and some of the visitors returned to grace hall later in the evening to attend the charity ball during the festivities many par ents took time out to visit the new health center dr william l estes jr corporate member of the board of trustees presented the building to dr whitaker in his presentation dr estes said the health center is ideal ly located on the fringe of the dormitory and fraternity area close to the largest living groups this location should fa cilitate the inclination to its fre quent and prompt patronage early in the course of disease this health center he said is designed to cover the broad spect rum of need in the application of aid in the care and prevention of illnesses cure of early stages of dis ease and minor injuries and to per mit the prompt recognition and diagnosis of impending or actual v s kudva of mangalore india was able to be with his son shinu on parent's weekend when business brought him to this country last tuesday they are shown in grace hall talking with prof m c lazen by during saturday's luncheon add more life to years rusk tells fall grads we must determine an individu al's abilities and give him opportu nities to develop them dr howard a rusk told graduates sunday af ternoon at the annual founder's l^ay exercises in packer chapel in his address the advan tage of disadvantage dr rusk said that more progress in medi cine has been made in the past two decades than ever before medics and educators alike must solve the resulting problem of great er life span said rusk chairman of the department of physical medicine nd rehabilitation at the new york university's bellevue medical cen ter he added that in the past dec ade alone the average life expect ancy has been increased five years we've added age to life we must n w add life to years is the solution being advocated by most men of medicine dr rusk said too many aged people are asking themselves why they're allowed to live a burdened life of those over 65 one-third re ceives no income at all one-third have an income of 500 or less and doodletown fifers to invade hp dance with new sound with its new sound in instru mental music the sauter-finegar band will invade the usually tran quil grace hall friday evening oct 28 to usher in fall houseparty 1955 this aggregation of musicians known best for their number the doodletown fifers comes to south mountain through the efforts of the class of 56 headed by ed sauter and bil fincgan these rhythm makers vvil perform on the lower floor of grac hall while matt gillespie will brinj his group to the campus again t play on the top floor as an indication of their swinj abilities both men have arrange music for some of the country's bes orchestras sauter was responsibl for many of benny goodman's fa mous arrangements and finegai wrote for tommy dorsey and glem miller among others the two men combined to bill finegan and eddie sauter to win in asia stress spiritual romulo urges _ _ _ v -
