lehigh university brown and white volume 67 — number 4 bethlehem pa tuesday october 4,1955 university 6-0331 scl art lunch on parents menu parents of students will be feted saturday as the university rolls out the welcome mat at its third annual parents day program this year it will be held in conjunction with the lehigh-bucknell football game although including many of the activities of last year's pro gram the university has also arranged many special features to supplement the parents vis it to lehigh through arrangements with the student concerts-lectures commit tee parents have been invited to hear gen carlos romulo first am bassador of the philippines to the united states who will discuss to day's world — tomorrow's goals friday night the saturday program is to open officially with a buffet luncheon at 11 a.m two art exhibitions are be ing presented in the american wing alumni memorial hall on saturday and sunday afteroons from 2 to 5 faculty members and their wives will be hosts and hostesses for the luncheon on the lower floor of grace hall parking facilities will be available to parents at the parking lot on the upper field the lot at the corner of adams and packer ayes and the lot at packer and brodhead the procedure for application for football tickets as outlined in pres ident whitakers letter of invitation specifies that parents wishing to at tend must fill out an enclosed form and forward it to their son who must present the application to the athletic office between tomorrow b&w to publish macabre humor of chas addams by wayne grainger at the top of page three in this issue you will find the first in a series of weekly cartoons by the new yorker magazine's master of the macabre chas addams with its publication the brown and white becomes the first college newspaper in the country to offer its readers the sinister humor of one of the world's top cartoonists as a reg ular feature although addams was officially christened charles he has elided his name to chas"—no period this act is typical of the man and his work a protect against convention ality the work of this cartoonist's car toonist is offered as an antidote to the saccharine treatment usually accorded to american family life after the depressingly cheer ful families of the beer ads the pious manifestations of marital bliss on the radio the sentimen tal gushing over the kiddies everywhere except in the home addams cartoons have been judged to be wonderfully re laxing in that he gives these themes a reverse and sometimes perverse twist for years addams has been the darling of the sophisticated college set however he is not universally admired recently a newspaper be chas addams 780 students dotes hop it an estimated 180 couples danced to the music of the collegians at the 55 version of the dink hop satur day night in grace hall most of the lehigh students attending were freshmen hut upperclassmen were admitted with dates tickets were sold at the door to upperclassmen for 2 the evening got off to its start with the arrival of the girls all blind dates from beaver centenary and cedar crest colleges and st luke's and allentown hospitals the buses carrying the coeds arrived on schedule at 5 p.m.—much to the re lief of the frosh who were anxious to get a look at their partners for the evening after the pairing off process which had been prearranged ac hopping at the hop—pat baird and burgess thomasson step lively at the dink hop while judy johnson and wayne stoddard seated with andy davis and ed wilkinson look on all three coeds are students at centenary college hackettstown n.j sweet mess—someplace in this pile lies lehigh quarterback dan nolan resting peacefully after sneaking the ball over delaware's goal line for the packers first touchdown the visitors missed the extra point but they took a 6-0 lead in the first period 86-yard jaunt nets 19-13 win over hens by bob bollinger after snagging a delaware pass which had been deflected by bill doremus pete williams lehigh's 225-pound right tackle outran dela ware quarterback bob hooper 86 yards to the goal line to give lehigh its winning touchdown in an uphill 19-13 upset victory over the blue hens at newark delaware satur day the packers had tied the count by rolling 74 yards in eight plays late in the third quarter the drive was climaxed by dan nolans 10-yard pass to left end austin short nolan sneaked over from the one for the extra point after delaware had been charged with interfer ence on a nolan to faillace pass lehigh's tough defensive line came into its own in the second half thrice stopping delaware inside the engineer twenty after lehigh marched 67 yards for a touchdown the first time they got the ball the blue hens main tained control for the rest of the first half quarterback bob hooper who played in the shadow of don miller the past three years called an excellent game displaying de ceptive fakes and clever ball handling time and time again the blue hens were able to pick up yard age on a double reverse which sent sophomore wingback bob moneymaker through the mid dle of the lehigh defense delaware's passing was also click ing as they completed six of eight passes in the first half however the lehigh secondary stopped this in the second half batting down or in tercepting five of the attempted blue hen aerials on the opening kickoff lehigh's fullback titus puck the kicker was injured and was replaced by sopho more walt pijawka according to emil havach lehigh's trainer puck will be out of action for three or four weeks with a fractured fibula of the right leg after getting a first dr rusk to speak at founder's day dr howard a rusk chairman of the department of physical medi cine and rehabilitation of new york university's
