student was attacked last r by a group of men at least one of s probably a lehigh student nother development relating to s security the paper has red that a male intruder has been i unlocked rooms m a woman's m mcclintic-marshall house cc 12 1975 a group of six men i three lehigh women students 5 along the road which runs behind hall the women were returning fraternity party to their dormitory the men exposed themselves to the one of the women walking behind the other two was grabbed own to the ground when the other men began screaming the men ding to the campus police report 3men could not give detailed tions they said the attackers were ne had dark hair and was wearing n jacket and jeans another was iix-feet tall had dark hair and a and was wearing a blue and yellow on drager assistant dean of s said m an interview that as far mew the case was closed because adequate descriptions given by the . she said one of the women said she n someone a student who looked nilar to one of the men but would ear to it er also said that no one has ap id her with any information which ad to the identification of one of the the brown and white later learned fcfrom a reliable source that drager has told that one of the attackers is a lehigh student who could be easily identified the brown and white source had telephoned drager's office the day drager was to meet with the women who were attacked speaking to drager's assistant attilia lannarelli who repeated the conversation to the dean during the call the source said she learned of the identity of one of the attackers from his girlfriend who is also a lehigh student the source told the dean's office that if asked to she would find out the name of the man but drager has not made that request asked if she knew of anyone who might have information leading to the identi fication of an attacker drager told the brown and white not that i'm aware of according to the brown and white source only two of the six men partici pated m the attack the lehigh student and a friend of his who is not a student at the university the source said the attacker's deans reject candidates for activities advisor by lew goldstein i the administration has rejected the iree final candidates being considered for le position of director of student ac vities dean of students william quay they didn't have the relevant ex erience for the job quay said in rms of their qualifications they simply idn't have what we were looking for he a selection process began after barbara olt resigned as director of student ac vities last may solt's resignation left the ludent activities council the lehigh niversity volunteers and the visiting ecturers committee without a per manent advisor p approximately 80 candidates applied for the position the poll of applicants was 1 ; ed to three and each candidate was ewed separately m december by a nember student advisory com as well as several members of the f students staff on drager assistant dean of s said the decision to reject the na lists was made during the winter m at a dean's staff meeting it was 1 that a better candidate could be „" she said three candidates received similar from quay during the second week ary informing them of the decision interviewed all three candidates they were given the impression he wording of the letter that a • decision had been made and that action process was finished on parr dean and vice president for student affairs said the credentials of the three candidates were lacking we wanted to be honest we wanted to be delicate when choosing the candidate and unfortunately they didn't meet our quali fications he said drager said the job qualifications in clude administrative skills analyzing contracts planning events contracts for speakers three years of experience m student personnel master's degree m 1 25,000 of surplus to be spent the board of trustees last friday ap proved a 30,000 appropriation for a special short course for teaching assistants the course to be held late m august is part of a 125,000 three-phase package approved by the trustees funding for the package will be appro priated from last year's budget surplus according to albert zettlemoyer vice president and provost the 95,000 balance of the package is to be used for two physical plant and planning projects the university had a budget surplus of 568,000 last year last december university president w deming lewis announced that because of the surplus the administration would recommend to the trustees additional appropriations of 375,000 these appropriations would have left the university with a net surplus balance of 135,000 for last year zettlemoyer said plans for the 250,000 remaining for appropriations recom mended by the administration m december may be approved at a later date the teaching assistant course entitled professional development of teaching assistants is a pre-academic year training period designed to improve the effectiveness and overall teaching qualities of the assistants the program will be used for teaching assistants from all three colleges although emphasis on specific areas will be made by the college of engineering and physical sciences and the college of arts and science the arts college will concentrate primarily on mathematics and english while the engineering college will stress physics and chemistry about 75,000 was set aside for interior reconstruction of chandler-uhlman hall zettlemoyer said this reconstruction is important since it will facilitate the renovation of the remaining space m the building and help other departments to move m the board of trustees also approved 20,000 for cosmetic improvements to the area immediately surrounding the new sherman fairchild building zettlemoyer said these renovations will include repairs to the exterior of wilbur powerhouse and the painting of the central heating and refrigeration building zettlemoyer declined to specify where any additional surplus funds will go he cautioned that he does not have juris diction over fiscal matters but com mented that future plans will be dependent upon the university's cash situation he said however that equipment for various departments will be first m priority albert zettlemoyer sharon drager lewis appointed to steel board university president w deming | lewis was appointed to the board of | directors of bethlehem steel corp | yesterday off-campus housing aide hired by residence halls by peg pfenninger the university will announce an ad ministrative assistant to supervise an off campus housing program today ac cording to sharon drager assistant dean of students the name of the assistant has not yet been disclosed drager said the primary function of the assistant will be to upgrade and increase the listings of available off-campus housing the new employe will also assist m directing dormitory renovations coordinating summer housing programs and assigning rooms with the hiring of an additional residence halls official drager said she hopes to expand the off-campus housing program aside from increasing the number of listings of available houses apartments and rooms the new assistant will produce a pamphlet outlining penn sylvania landlord-tenant laws drager said she would also like to have programs set up with landlords to give them a better understanding of student needs according to drager the off-campus housing listing serves more people within the university system than any other service m this office in recent years sophomores who could not get campus housing have made the most use of the listings now drager said graduate students faculty members and former fraternity members use the lists drager estimates that the listings include several hundred
