conserve energy the total cost of fuel to the university continues to rise according to robert numbers director of buildings and grounds to alleviate the crisis the department has taken numerous steps to save energy numbers said the rising cost of energy has matched the effort to conserve he added numbers said despite the fact we have reduced consumption of gas oil and electricity we are still spending more for energy if we had not cut consumption there would have been a tremendous increase m the cost of energy this is due to the great increase m the fuel adjustment charge according to numbers his department has stepped up efforts to conserve energy we have ordered more stickers for light switches to remind people to turn out lights we have sent reminders to university officials about conserving fuel and electricity we have also cut the hot wafet temperature m the domestic hot water storage tanks when the tempera ture is rising or the forecast is for warm weather we turn off the steam he said numbers continued anything that utilizes energy we have been cutting back to the point where we hope it doesn't cause any inconvenience this is possible by metering gas electricity quay's action of not putting m a cable tv system baiz said it was a reasonable financially saturday quizzes rescheduled for football team and glee club byjohnmahoney members of the university football team and glee club scheduled for saturday morning quizzes took the test outside the specified time and location the tests will be considered illegal examinations unless proper author ization is given by the registrar's office according to william quay dean of students registrar james h wagner said he was not notified of the change m testing time for members of the football team or the glee club he noted everyone is generally tested at the same time wagner said he was uncertain whether university regulations had been breached by the change m testing procedure he said somebody must have felt they had a legitimate excuse for the schedule change robert b cutler professor and chair man of the music department said glee club members scheduled for quizzes last saturday took their tests at smith college the glee club had planned to visit smith before the tests were scheduled cutler said glee club members who were tested rode on a quiet study bus on the way to smith but said the bus was old and bounced and squeaked during the trip he said he proctored the test m a classroom at smith saturday morning cutler said the saturday quizzes limit our choice of dates m making up the glee club's schedule he noted 4 p.m quizzes also interfere with the glee club's prac tices frederick dunlap varsity head football coach said nine members of the football team took their saturday-scheduled quizzes friday night m saucon valley he said sheldon h radin professor of physics and theodore hailperin professor of mathematics realized that a test and game scheduled for the same time was a burden on team members dunlap said the two professors agreed to allow football players to take their tests early radin and dunlap proctored the tests the players were kept m the valley overnight and were not allowed to use telephones to prevent leaking of infor mation about the tests dunlap said when the team plays davidson later m the season saturday scheduled tests would pose a real problem travelling friday night would not be open to allow early testing for team members radin said he considered the test given football players to be essentially a make up as the football players had special circumstances wagner said make-up quizzes are generally given because of testing con flicts and are scheduled after the regularly-scheduled test radin said other students grades would be computed without the test's score m the event they missed the test and their final exam grade would then determine a larger part of their whole course grade radin said he had complete control over the test and that we were able to take care of these particular groups without jeopardy to anyone both dunlap and radin noted that in dividuals on the football team to whom the quizzes were administered were grateful to have been allowed to take the exam early hailperin whose math 41 test was given early said the same exam was given to the football players as was given to the other students m the class radin did not say
