after world war ii we en couraged all latin-american states to join the united nations he continued we set up a new re gional organization called the or serf ass robert perry all duded up in navy filipos notched two near falls c feuerbach took the measure of a it competition in nine minutes of crowd pleasing action captain dick kel sey successfully opened the de fense of his eastern crown as he decisionel captain bob stedge 3-2 kelsey's driving tactics while maintaining advantage during the entire second period bore fruit in the last stanza as he effected the escape necessary for the margin of victory with one second remaining in the 145 pound bout john mahoney slapped a figure four and a bar arm on barry pusch and added five points to the rapidly growing lehigh point total after an ac tionless first period mahoney took command and engineered a rever sal and two near falls before he secured the pinning combination lehigh's third fall came in the 155 pound encounter as pete mur phy caught sid laibson with a body press and bar arm in twenty eight seconds of the third period murphy wrestling his first varsity bout showed that he is ready to assume the 155 pound duties of eric erikson who was moved up a weight class at 165 pounds eric erikson and his bag of tricks were too much for bill bartels representing cornell the fall came on a reverse cradle late in the initial period atfer erikson had mauled bartels from one pinning hold to another the opening action was a lateral drop takedown beautifully exe cuted by erikson cornell broke into the scoring when chuck taft pinned phil do natelli in the third period of their 175 pound tussle donatelli also wrestling varsity for the first time displayed fine form in maintaining advantage until midway in the second period quantitative analysis and assaying led off the brass studded line of guest speakers pro fessor diefenderfer recalled the first of the annual banquets held in 1918 when he and his mother made all the mince meat for the pies he was followed by presi dent whitaker who set the pace for his fellow speakers keeping remarks short and jocular dean john d leith robert herrick di rcetor of public relations who confessed trying to gain admission to the affair each year since 1930 and dr harvey a neville head of department of chemistry ad-lib bed and wise-cracked their ways through the after dinner of our fellow man jack ransohoff as vincent uhl instructor in chemistry next week we're goins to visit a cement plant in alaska john rohall raised clouds of cigarette smoke in imitation of smoky souse mountain a musi cal skit by the chemistry depart ment seniors climaxed the party the tunes of the b'way hit south pacific revamped with a new set of lyrics by jack ransohoff ch,e feb 50 formed the core of the show dedicated to the amusement of the students and the embarrass mnt of the faculty f'rinstance otto preis as dr easy easton student evaluation has reached the point where we professors have to take tests amstutz exempted seidle named to nsa state advisory staff at the pennsylvania regional meeting of the national student association held last weekend at albright college charles a seidle associate dean of students was one of seven voted to the regional ad visory board dean seidle polled the highest number of votes cast for any can didate his election assures him of a three year position three of the key proposals which came out of the meeting were 1 a unanimous decision to hold a human relations confer ence of christians and jews 2 recongnition of the need for eval uation and revising of current cur ricula and 3 unanimous support of the idea of a total community where faculty administration and students pull together a provisional amendment to the constitution was proposed and will be finally passed at the june meeting this amendment will make changes to the constitution easier sometime in the future informa tion will be released about a meeting of faculty and adminis tration members of different col leges with the officers of the re gional association classics students with high marks enter fraternity in recognition of high scholarship and attainment in study of latin and greek lan guages the alpha epsilon chapter of eta sigma phi national classics honorary initiated six candidates into membership friday night in the arcadia room presided over by alvord beards lee and assisted by william ciara vino the ritual was followed by a banquet in the trustees dining room dr joseph a maurer de partment of romance languages gave a lecture entitled pin and needles candidates initiated were rob bert baynum arts 50 charles butterworth arts 50 william h gentzlinger arts 52 robert heim arts 52 william schuler arts 52 robert baird schuman 51 federalists meet discuss possible peace under un lehigh members of the united world federalists met in the history seminar of the library sunday afternoon dec 18 to dis cuss the potentialities of the united nations in its present set-up for keeping world peace charles butterworth presided david caulkins presented the uwf plan of action for world gov ernment and its view of the pres ent necessity but future inade quacy of the united nations mrs h lamar crosby wife of prof crosby of philosophy and formerly a member of the un staff defended the present merits of the international organization the disagreements between supporters of the un and members of the uwf boil down to timing everyone who wants world peace wants world government the un is a success so far must and can be further implemented including a basic change in the charter to keep world peace if the usa and the ussr really want to keep peace the can do it within the present framework auric n dunlap ganization of american states sometimes referred to the little u.n for in reality this organiza tion is set up with the same aims as the u.n he described the situation to day as tending toward the right on the part of some of these countries stating that they are looking to ward spain rather than the united states for leadership herbert isar instuctor and now acting faculty adviser to the span ish club said that there will be a movie shown in packard auditor ium the date has not been an nounced as yet after the speech russell se fing and his orchestra provided spanish music refreshments 1 were served by jack
