editor and peg pfenninger incoming freshman men will not be guaranteed on-campus housing if a proposal being considered by the forum residence subcommittee is adopted by the forum the proposal also would change the residence halls lottery system so that all rising sophomores juniors and seniors would be placed m the lottery peter lilienfield 77 subcommittee chairman said he felt most subcommittee members are m support of the proposal but said he had not taken a formal poll he kie proposal could be amended to s freshman women but the sub ttee has not discussed this yet ersity's residence halls policy tly guarantees housing to all m ; freshmen as well as to rising juniors and seniors already living on campus rising sophomores and students who are not living m university-sponsored housing then go through a lottery to see who will get the remaining rooms according to lilienfield the proposal the committee now is considering contains the fewest flaws of most of the alternatives we've looked into however the sub committee is still examining other alternatives including lotterizing all rising seniors only he said according to the proposed lottery the number of rooms allocated to each class would be based on the percentages of class members returning to the residence halls system the allocation figures take into account the approximately 50 per cent of freshman men that move into fraternities m their sophomore year the subcommittee is considering allocating 50 per cent of male spaces on campus to freshman men currently 650 freshmen are housed m 56 per cent of the male spaces lilienfield explained the reduced percentage would make available approximately 78 more spaces to up perclass students he continued lilienfield said he expects erne ad ministrators will be dissatisfied with fewer spaces available for freshmen men the cutback would require either fewer male acceptances or alternative housing plans he said david lee director of residence halls operations and robert reeves assistant dean of students have been meeting with admissions office staff concerning the lottery but no decisions have been made lilienfield said lilienfield emphasized that the peter lilienfield forum residence subcommittee chairman checks his notes at a recent sub committee meeting three for 1 — thrown garbage and general confusion at last year's talent show caused a student review board to recommend cancelling the event william quay dean of students recently officially announced the show's cancellation here the women of richards 3b do their thing m last year's show cancellation of talent show advised by student panel by eric miller there will be no talent show during lehigh-lafayette week this year ac cording to william quay dean of students quay said the decision is m line with the recommendation of a student review board appointed after last year's show student activities council vice president chuck heller who is m cnarge of lafayette week activities said no show is planned but added it might be reinstated if sac can convince the deans that a repeat of last year's show won't occur the talent show last year was marked by , several obscene skits garbage thrown from the crowd and general confusion m grace hall quay and heller agreed that tighter controls must be put on the show if it is to continue quay suggested prescreening the acts and throwing out any obscene skits heller went further saying that using the deans as judges might control the quality of the skits if interest persists m the talent show quay recommended organizing the show for greek week or some off weekend during the winter alternate plans for lafayette week activities are being drawn up to replace the talent show heller said he said a new organization activity spirit association asa is reviewing the possibility of reviving old traditions like the pajama parade quay and heller both said that if student interest warrants a talent show then the students also should keep the show under control john steckbeck director of intramurals and former coordinator of the talent show could not be reached for comment sac deficit may bring student fee by neil mitchell an activities fee for all students is being considered as a possible solution to the student activities council sac deficit of 12,000 by the sac and william quay dean of students the fee according to quay would be added to the tuition and would help cover the costs of all student ac tivities fe the amount of the fee is presently un determined according to gary hir schberg 78 sac concert chairman lehigh is considerably behind other colleges as to the amount of money spent per student he said the quality of the activities on campus is not lacking rather the quantity of activities is lacking he quay said an activities fee did once exist at the university however it was eliminated by the board of trustees m the 19505 they didn't feel it necessary to have a separate fee designated for activities he currently there is a hidden fee as part of the tuition but it is not designated as an activities fee quay said the hidden fee of approximately 20 annually per student supplies the 80,000 activities bdget quay said the present activities budget is ocated according to three types of ac tivities according to quay the activities that are faculty directed including the brown and white glee club and the band receive first preference following faculty directed activities is major total campus activities this group includes the sac the last group on the list are special interest groups including the chess sailing or hockey clubs the concert committee is not funded by the budget if an activities fee is accepted at the university it will also fund the concert committee hirschberg said he said the fee will actually be an extension of the present budget the difference is that the fee will be designated and the concerts will be funded an administrating body which would be consistent year after year must be established to allocate the funds ac cording to quay an administration with a strong jock faction for example might be biased towards allocating more funds to athletic activities quay said in state schools m the past activities fees have been protested and taken to the courts quay said the major complaint was unfair distribution of funds he said in some cases the courts struck down the fee hirschberg said that m researching the activities fee the sac hopes to solve the appropriations problem by constructing a central committee consisting of the major benefactors of the fee committee membership will probably come from the eight to 10 organizations that would be affected by the fee including sac and brown and white he indicated before the fee can be initiated on campus it must be adopted by the sac hirschberg said then any other organization that may want to adopt it will have its chance he said after
