white survey of 42 rh-11 apartments revealed that 75 per cent of the residents polled said their apartments were damaged when they arrived last weekend of the 42 residents polled 19 said they had complained to residence halls operations about the conditions of their apartments two of the 19 said they thought residence halls responded m a satisfactory manner six students com plained to university president deming lewis david lee director of residence halls operations admitted apartment damages were not corrected after students moved out m may lee said the resignations of sharon drager assistant dean of students two residence halls staff members and one secretary this summer reduced the ef ficiency of rh-11 maintenance procedures lee said students who lived m rh-11 during the summer and appliances that broke down during the summer were also responsible for complaints this is a different kind of construction than what our students are used to he said all other residence halls are brick except for rh-11 he explained he said the comparison between other residence halls and rh-11 is brick versus the dry wall lee said that any new building will draw complaints from occupants complaints from rh-11 will get fewer and fewer each year as construction problems are solved he said he cited the widespread problem of roof leaks m rh-11 last year as one such problem lee resigns os residence head by donna frabotta senior reporter sharon drager assistant dean of students resigned june 15 to continue graduate study at the university of indiana drager had been director of residence halls since sept 1 1975 this is the third time m the last 18 months that the head of residence halls has changed hands on jan 1 1975 dean of residence clarence campbell left his post for early retirement robert reeves assistant dean of students now assumes drager's responsibilities as well as having responsibility for town council frater nities and sororities reeves is assisted by three area coordinators m the residence halls and one coordinator to be appointed m the area of fraternities sororities and town house in addition to drager's resignation residence operations lost two additional employes this summer attilia lannarelli assistant to the dean of students and ellen yamaguchi residence administrative assistant also resigned their posts in an interview earlier this summer drager said she resigned because she wanted to expand her professional options however sources close to drager have said she resigned because she felt she could no longer relate to students drager denied she was pressured into resigning my salary for next year already was set and was satisfactory she said she is returning to graduate school to pursue a master's degree m hospital ad ministration drager said william quay dean of students said he was quite surprised that drager resigned i knew she was having a tough year but she had indicated she wanted to stay he added drager and the residence halls office were criticized last march when changes m the residence halls lottery system and configurations were announced i consolidation consolidation of the residence halls office into the dean of students office under william quay was announced m late january 1975 in march 1975 quay an nounced a plan for co-heads of residence halls r peter shurtleff as director of operations and drager as director of personnel shurtleff resigned july 1 1975 the date consolidation took effect leaving drager m full control of residence operations shurtleff said at that time that he wasn't satisfied with the way reorganization was going and i felt i had no alternative drager said she was discouraged because university students tend to remain m one type of housing and are reluctant to experience the various living environments that the university offers living m a residence hall is a prime training ground for learning to deal with building and renovation suggested in library report by ken bandler news editor a new library facility at the university's ' mart library is necessary to relieve over crowding m the university's library system according to a report filed by a library consultant this summer the report also recommends major renovations m linderman library at the request of the forum vice president and provost albert zettlemoyer invited david kaser professor m the graduate library school of indiana university to review the existing university library facilities and advise on the options available for meeting the libraries space needs through 1996 the 11-page report concluded that the most feasible option is to construct a wing on the north side of mart library this new structure would include 300 additional seats and shelf space for another 400,000 volumes the report emphasized that the ad ditional building should not be built unless linderman also receives a large sum of money for modernization such additions as total air-conditioning relighting carpeting and new furniture are necessary for proper operation of the library through the next four decades the report stated kaser's report is being examined by library personnel forum members and university administrators linderman library's back collections are already m excess of capacity the report states cited as inadequate are facilities for government documents and microfilm reading the size and quality of most staff work areas as well as reader stations though mart library is full the quality of its staff and space were commended by the report see b&w page 11 see drager
