as the temperature rises and the mounds of snow begin to melt into rivers of water talk of spring break is running rampant who is going where with whom and for how much are two questions encompassing what seems to be al most every conversation on campus between students students are ready to hit the beach hit the slopes or just hit the road it appears that jamaica the bahamas and cancun are this year's hot spots vacations in these hot spots how ever seem more like a class trip than an escape from lehigh as many stu dents are migratingto the same spots cliff finkle 96 and his fellow kappa sigma fraternity brothers have opted to go to the bahamas despite its recent overwhelming popularity finkle however is not too pleased with the prospect of spending his vacation with hordes of lehigh problems of aids and stds alpha phi and chi psi host televised sex education program an aids and std awareness program held by chi psi fraternity alpha phi sorority and lehigh peer educators last tuesday will be broad cast nationwide five lehigh university sexual health peer educators conducted an interactive program to educate stu dents on aids and stds and their presenceon lehigh s campus the program will be filmed by the medstar medical news television company to be broadcast at a later date as part of a documentary series christopher licht assignment editorfor medstar communications said we are filming a three-part series on sex and its consequences in college-age students and excerpts the brown and white vol 101 no 38 panhel makes new rules for sorority formals all the lehigh news first by deana di dio assistant news editor better safe than sorry following last semester's formal fiascoes in which there was thousands of damage in two area hotels during alpha phi and delta gamma sororities formals the panhel lenic council after requests from the university unanimously voted to strengthen rules governing formals at wednesday's meeting rules for formal spring 1994 • each sorority must hire a security guard * a list of all the dates must be given to the greek affairs office before the night of the formal • each class must have a contact person to whom sisters dates and location management will talk to if a problem should arise • each contact person is to have taxi money so that any person who is having a problem can leave christine carroll administrative assistant for panhel said the rules were originally ideas from various members there was some con troversy at first about some of the rules such as a security guard since many of the sororities have not had problems in the past however all agreed with the rules in the end regarding them as precautionary measures it's much more beneficial to take care of the costs in the beginning than to take care of it in the end carroll said the rules were made broad enough so that each house can have jurisdiction as to where they want their security guard and other more specific details shoshana schiff 95 president of panhel said feels the new rules will be beneficial to the sororities because there are establishedrules they act as a deterrence she said in other business panhel was also able to get residential services approval to have bol ster beds removed from sorority houses at a cost of 30,000 for the removal the bed issue has been discussed for a while and is very happy with the outcome this is a big victory for us schiff said we should all be very proud of ourselves if we could get this accom plished schiff feels the university was very helpful in reaching this goal the bolster beds will be replaced this sum mer by bunkable beds in gamma phi beta delta gamma alpha omicron pi and alpha gamma delta sororities alpha phi and kappa please see panhel page 6 by andrea mc cloud news location it will be nice to be away from school yet if you want still have the opportunity to interact with people from lehigh she said there is no getting around the fact that a number of students are attracted to the prospect of interact ing with other students many people want to go on vacation to meet new people expense is also another factor in vacation choice many students went through
