lehigh university friday november 18 1949 volume 58 — number 14 fraternity displays forecast victory over maroon saturday bethlehem pa alpha chi rho reveals lee high's butcher shop in which lee is grinding up leopards for leopardburg ers while alpha sigma phi has depicted the big brown steam roller pursuing lafayette alpha tau ome ga's scene shows a lehij?h player kicking lafayette m en off the roof to be mauled by a stone crusher lehigh's fraternity buildings are partially obscured by various displays this weekend all of which depict the big brown's mastery of the lafayette leopard the final judging of these displays will take place tonight the best project receiving a cup and plaque hot packer team seeks win over leopard foe tomorrow by john crane no game this season has featured the color brilliant football or the grim determination of both teams to win that the 85th lafayette lehigh grid classic promises tomorrow at the bethlehem high school stadium past records mean nothing in this bitter rivalry the longest unbroken series in the nation both teams have spent all season pre paring for the famous contest and victory can either top off lehigh's successful season or make up for the dissapointment of lafayette's open season on leopards . . . poor record lafayette makes the short trip from easton with only one victory probable line-ups to their credit a 35-21 decision over muhlenberg however their losses have been by small margins against some tough teams prince ton and rutgers have defeated the leopards by two touchdowns while syracuse delaware george wash ington and bucknell have won by seven points having been picked to defeat bucknell last week and having then lost 21-14 lafayette will be out to make sure that to morrow they will end their losing streak with one of the best records in recent years lehigh has only dropped games to rutgers and brown six teams have fallen be neath the high-scoring brown and continued on page 2 col 1 campus fraternities burst forth with the regular annual plethora of goldbergisms which this year are the high spots in the intense pre-game rivalry between the packers and the leopards lehigh loco lambastes leop ard is beta theta pi's contribu tion an engine bearing down upon a hand-car holding a leopard and a referee chi phi repeats the lo comotive theme with the jeopard being pulled along the front wall of the house chi psi's giant maga zine has pages which turn auto matically to reveal foreign posters delta phi's lu football play er seems to get joy out of kicking maroon and white kigmes delta sigma phi shows lehigh in its web surrounded by the bodies of its victims and delta tau delta has a giant teletype machine set up to give a running account of the lehight-lafayette clash a leopard pulls a lehigh paganini brahms here sun the second recital of the new sunday recital series sponsored by the music department of lehigh university will take place on sun day november 20 at 4 p.m the featured artist will be violinist jean sandbank miss sandbank has studied a recognizing the need for a handbook on athletics at lehigh the brown key society announced plans to publish an annual booklet the lehigh sports review scheduled to appear next fall attempted for the first time in the history of lehigh the publication dames to hear pediatrician talk on sex and babies marriage relations during pregnancy the adjustments neces sary after arrival of the baby and babies in general will be discussed by dr sarah m hindman local pediatrician at the dames club meeting 8 p.m monday in drown hall according to mrs earl main club president members of the club are asked to bring canned goods and other foodstuffs suitable for a club sponsored thanksgiving basket to be given to a needy family alumni gather for beer fest with the taste of a victory in the air alumni from far and wide will gather in the dining room of the bethlehem hotel friday at 8:30 p.m to beat lafayette drink beer and renew acquaintances an nounced james mitcheu president an old fashioned program has been planned which includes all of the beer pretzels and socialibility that can be crowded into two hours music by the lehigh band songs by a double quartet words by the coaching staff movies by army and navy an d above all victory by lehigh will be included the curtis institute of music in philadelphia she is already well known to concert audiences south of the equator having studied and performed in south america the young violinist comes to us direct from rio de janeiro where she was one of the outstanding pupils of ivan galamian charlton meyer will serve as piano accompanist for the recital he is a student of isabelle ven gerova at the curtis institute of music mr meyer will be featured in the bach-busoni chaconne in d minor miss sandbank's program is as follows sonata in g minor by tartini aver poeme by chausson prelude and allegro by paganini-kreisler contemplation by brahms-heifetz and roumanian folk dances by bartok the recital is to be given in the lehigh university library browsing room admission to the event is 1 free and the public is cordially invited to attend on november 20 the university chorale
