please see bus page 8 gers pastore said no students would get off we waited for 10 minutes until two girls got off all the men on the bus felt like such gentle men this is not only aggravating for the passengers but many of the driv ers also clyde andrews has been a lehigh bus driver for 1 0 years and has had his share of frustrations no one likes to say hey get off the bus ' however we have a route to follow andrews said it creates problems for most of the drivers be cause students don't realize mountaintop bus services are funded by mountaintop in essence students are only allowed to ride as long as there is room as andrews said the funding for the blue route is by mountaintop campus and has been since its estab lishment however according to james tiefenbrunn director of the budget office starting next year the mountaintop funding which includes the bus service will be totally inte dean of students investigating brawl malcolm x meets martin luther king jr by dierdre o'connor news writer biw photo by david baker thomas grimes and john spencer act out the meeting between malcolm x and martin luther king jr on tuesday please see meeting page 8 malcolm x met martin luther king in a harlem hotel room on feb 14 1965 tuesday night in university center room 308 for a conversation that may have taken place their meeting was preceded by a perfor mance of the group new generation composed of four women and five men from lehigh the singing was followed by a saxophone solo from stan strickland a musician from boston who also took a role in the acting performance dr king and malcolm x came to the stage separately to address their respective audiences and offer a glimpse of their differing philoso phies regarding the civil rights move ment these diametrically opposed approaches would lay the foundation for the ensuing debate that followed dr king emerges emanating a desire for justice but by peaceful means we are not about to turn around the burning of our houses and churches will not deter us how long will it take king answers his own rhetorical question it won't be long no lie can live forever my god is marching on malcolm x enters addressing his audience brothers sisters i even see a few enemies out there mal colm x asserts that he is not a racist but he is a realist he states that he does not advocate violence nor does the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 hill residents have no bus of their own vol 101 no 32 friday march 4 1994 all the lehigh news first the dean of student's office is investigating a brawl at phi delta theta fraternity that took place fri day night an administration source confirmed wednesday witnesses said the fight which occurred outside the front door sent numerous students to st luke's hospital after the lehigh police were called to the scene phi delt president paul mckinnell 95 said he called the police when he saw the fight he said phi delt voluntarily shut down the party at that point the lehigh police referred all questions to terrance curran asso ciate dean of students curran was unavailable for comment the lehigh police reports said a person was struck in the face at phi delt and required stiches and had a tooth knocked out pol ice al so reported that windows were broken at the house and a stu dent under the age of 2 1 was cited for consumption of alcohol this report was compiled by the brown and white news staff despite popular belief the mountaintop and saucon vil lage bus services which continually depart from e.w fairchild-martindale li brary williams hall and drown hall are not designed for residents of the hill this misconception and lack of a service hill residents can call their own has caused inconveniences and frustrations for passengers and driv ers the blue route which goes to mountaintop campus every 10 min utes follows the policy of taking passengers to the hill only if there are any extra seats according to christopher christian manager of transportation services this has been the policy since the acquisition of mountaintop campus in the late 1980s all of the bus services give the priority to the passenger for who the service was designed christian said the blue route was implemented for mountaintop service by david mederrick associate editor mountaintop rider the driver got off the bus be cause it was full and waited for two empty seats for mountaintop passen chris pastore 95 a member of pi lambda phi fraternity has been on the bus many times when someone had to get off to make room for a baw photo by david baker due to overcrowding some hill-bound passengers have been forced to vacate their seats problematic situations arise when the bus drivers have to ask someone on the bus to leave in order to make room for a mountaintop passenger news 1-8 world news briefs 2 unity dinner 3 lifestyle 9-15 aids and society 9 spgfj child care center 10 l w — sports 16-24 v^m i ski team 22 wrestling 90tb eiwa tournament this weekend see sports page 24
