price five cents bethlehem pa friday mjay 20 1921 netmen easily defeat state college team visiting racquet club gives but slight opposition to le high score 6-0 the lehigh racquet-wiekiers com pletely overwhelmed the permi state aggregation on the university courts on wednesday afternoon taking all the matches both singles anid doubles for a 6-0 victory the lehigh team was in excellent form and attacked the center col lege clan with such violence that they were completely snowed under smarting under a severe trouncing administered by the navy last sat urday and as an added incentive to win the defeat which the le high ball-tossers suffered at the hands of perm state the lehigh men determined to down state in tennis and did so admirably most of the matches were easy for the lehigh netmen and the majority of them were captured in two straight sets in fact there were only two matches that took three sets to decide the winner ; the sec ond set of singles and the second set of doubles both of these matches were close arwi hard fought with lehigh nnalb/;-carrying off the honors these*twdkpartic ular matches furnished the main at traction of thp giterrrvw the ot 1""^1 ""^ matches being so one-sided as to deprive them of great interest the best work of the afternoon was done by boggs of the visitors and beale of lehigh these men paired off in the second set of singles and boggs started off with a dash taking the first set 6-2 and it looked for a time as though he would capture the match in two straight sets however beale came back strong taking the next two sets after a hard and close tussle in the second set of doubles which required three sets to decide beale and laughton after dropping the first set to watts and parsons came through with the next two sets after extending themselves to the limit the other matches were so one sided that the lehigh men scarcely had opportunity to show what they continued on page four juniors nominate men for senior offices the junior class held a meeting in packer hall at noon last wed nesday for the purpose of nomina ting officers for the coming year the following men were nominated for the respective offices : president c a connell a r little c c strauch vice-president — l g barthold m h foote secretary l b kehler w schier treasurer c h tagels h w platt n p sanborn r c zant zinger sergeant-at-arms w brewer g ml brumbaugh g r swinton historian l l drew c p j gooding r f miller athletic representative e m enslin g c o'keefe l n van nort the election of these officers will | take place this morning from eight ; to twelve o'clock in drown hall burr notice the burr board will hold thelast meeting of the year to-night at 7.15 in drown hall all members are expected to be present twelve to clash with pennsylvania coach o'neill's lacrosse men will invade u of p territory to morrow in league game restricted to the use of but one end of taylor field owing to the many baseball games of the week coach bill o'neill has been handi capped in his work of tutoring the lacrosse team for the annual game with the university of pennsylva nia to-morrow afternoon on frank lin field w r ith the exception of last year the pennsylvania game has always been one of the hardest on the lehigh twelve's schedule and from all reports . to-morrow's game should be no excq)tion practice during the week has necessarily been confined for the greater part to the pitting of the varsity attack against the varsity defense and the lehigh mentor has been endeavoring to improve the stickwork and passing in close scrimmage in the vicinity of the goal these work-outs in a smaller area than usual have been product ive oi greater speed and more ac curacy in passing and shooting and have generally tended to better con dition the men for the hard game that is expected don shulz alone suffered an injury in the combat with rutgers last saturday and le high's out-home man has been wit nessing the daily work-outs from the side-lines in goal parker has continued to scoop the best of shots out of danger and if the quality of his play to-morrow is comparable with his exhibition of net-work in continued on page five 1 necessary to hold another 23 election for most of the offices of the elections of the sophomore class last tuesday afternoon a majority was not reached and the two high est men in each case will be put up for the office at the election to be held at a class meeting this morn ing at 1 1 o'clock the only offices that were deci ded were historian and the epito ime board j w gardy was elect ed historian while the following men made the epitome editorial board : j m conroy g fitch c f forstall t w gardy a w hicks h r randall and f c j walters b a c johnston and s a stafford compose the art staff i of the board ! beale r m beck l j bray i sergeant at arms — a c cu sick l f kurtz faculty entertained at chi psi lodge unique reception for professors held at fraternity mon day evening the chi psis made a delightful ly unique innovation on monday ev ening last when faculty members and student representatives from the living groups were guests at a faculty-student smoker the affair was a decided success and the chi ] psis are to be commended on the enjoyable entertainment of the | professors the principal form of amusement i was gambling the lower floor of the house was turned into a gamb ling-joint where the learned profes sors played recklessly at roulette faro crap poker twenty-one and red diog one hundred and forty dollars in counterfeit was given ev ery guest and a prize promised to the one who made the best use of his talents the faculty members displayed quite some proficiency at the games which in some cases were the professors not known to be gentlemen of good morals might argue a misspent youth everyone took a shot at each game but each had his own favor ite dr miller succeedied in rob bing the roulette wheel of about six hundred dollars and could hardly | he induced to leave it parke fraim came out almost five hundred ahead at faro ■crap was one of the most popu j lar games and some of the profs demonstrated a surprising ability in talking to the little ivories and mak ing them roll right prof klein astonished the crowd by beating such experts as moorehouse buck ley hughes schaefer burgess and bunn out of 1004 dr emery al so patronized the dice for a long time — with profit beaver tried everything in 1 the house and finally declared that there was a conspira cy against him dr miller won first prize with a winning of 1100 dollars prof klein was a close second prof j beaver was awarded the booby prize ask him all about it the hawaiian quartette kindly offered their services and rendered i several pleasing selections faculty nine loses again to lafayette the lehigh profs were forced to bow in defeat to their worthy j colleagues in the gentle art of edu cation at lafayette on monday af ternoon to the tune of 22 to 21 leading them out almost the en !
