telephone constructions " sand owing to his great amount of experience in this line hiis talk should be unusually interesting mr galbraith is a graduate who has achieved signal success in his chosen profession and not omly electricals but all the en gineering students as well shouic take advantage of the opportunity to hear him the e e society has for sev eral years been affiliated with the american institute of electrical engineers as a student branch and statistics show it to be one of the strongest of these attached organi zations among the speakers ob tained for the meetings during the year were william s murray head of the superpower system ; dr carl herrimg past president of the a i e e and other men equally prominent in the engineering world as the annual election of officers will take place all memibers are particularly urged to be present track team entered in intercollegiates after a period of inactivity for several weeks two of the teams in the interfraternity basket ball tournament finally aiet on the floor last tuesday these two teamis were the phi gamma deltas and the phi-delta thetas the for mer team wot by an exceedingly large score 58-19 the team w r ork of the phi gams was in the main responsible for this victory while the individual playing of larson was easily the outstanding feature of the game this game puts the phi gams in the finals but due to the fact that the upper leg of the tournament has yet to be run off the finals will not take place for some time the teams holding up the first part of the tournament are delta u and sigma chi it is players cavorting on the field as thb they were a bunch of boys playing on the old back lots the moral of the tragedy was quite obvious as it unravelled itself dm ring those nine innings and was one which is forever heard at le high beat lafayette and on th other hand beat lehigh the players of both institutions of learning tried very hard to win the laurels and it was a replica of the battle fought on the gridiron and diamond year after year the game started off like a real lafayette-lehrgh game should and does neither team scored in the first frame but in the second and third innings lehigh succeeded in getting nine rums against lafa yette's two lehigh scored again in the fourth netting three run while lafayette failed to score from then on lehigh failed to push a man across the rubber while la fayette kept plodding along and amlassed eleven runs in five in nings or just enough to win major lang and ray walters composed the first battery for le high and during the three innings in which it worked covered itself with glory the major suceeded in striking out five out of nine bats men who faced him however by agreements no pitcher could pitch for more than three ironings this necessitated the removal of major lang to first base and bosey reiter went in for his trick bos ey showed that he still had more than a prayer on the ball and struck out three men during team came back on wednesday afternoon and i defeated moravian college by the score of 5 matches to 1 losing aj single encounter the first match captain beck versus captain hoff miam probably displayed the best tennis of the afternoom beck win ning after a hard struggle 7-5 6-4 beale was in rare form in his match with kemper and had nc ! trouble in defeating him in straight sets 6-2 6-4 church dropped the i omly contest for lehigh to howser who was putting up an excellent brand of tennis church was in ctined to be wild and didni't steady down until the double match which he and beck took from hoffman and kemper 6-3 6-4 church service in this match was much improved and this together with beck's excellent consistent game won the necessary points the tilt between wentz and mei nert was the closest of the day it was a hard fought three set match with wenitz finally coming out a winner he won the first set not as easily as the score might indi cate but dropped the next one after a easton catasauqua naza reth northampton and phillips burg demonstration tests were put on for the benefit of the visi tors in fritz engineering lab bw members of the staff and senior students in the civil engineering department the guests were greet ed in behalf of the university by dr emery and professor fuller was in charge of the tests after the demonstration the visitors were conducted by registrar walters to the new addition to the chem lab the library and taylor gym and stadium seniors in the bethlehem schools will be entertained in a similar manner next wednesday . coach morris kanaly is this week centering his attention on the squad of lehigh track and field athletes who will represent the team in the middle atlantic states inter collegiates to be held at johns hjopkims tomorrow afternoon the men are leaving this after noon at two o'clock and will be ac companied by the coach manager a j barthold and assistant man ager r c zantzinger the trial and heats of all the events with the exception of the 880 one mile and two mile runs will be run off in the morning the finals and the three events specified will be staged in the afternoon while it is generally conceded that rutgers will again capture the honors the new brunswick col legians nevertheless will have to be at their best for lafayette also looms up as a dangerous contender the man most likely to come the colosseum has kindly donated the hall for the eyeing and the band only needs the support of the student body to to make the evening a success at a recent meeting of the sword and crescent club a resolution was passed congratulating the fresh men anid the sophomores upon their recent rush after which a dis cussion was heki on the letter of a b maginness 21 to the le high browh and white and the following resolution was passed ; whereas professionalism in ath letics as practiced by i^ifayette col lege has reached a point where good sportsmanship and friendly rivalry between lehigh and lafa yette are greatly endangered therefore be it resolved that this society suggests to the athletic committee of lehigh university that it take action against profes sionalism as practiced by lafayette college and fur flier that it express en ergetic protest against professional ism as practiced by lafayette col lege and further that this resolution be published in the lehigh broivtr and white a motion was passed recomrnen ing to the athletic commitee that they look into the advantages of appointing some lehigh alumnus as graduate manager of athletics men of the junior class have been under consideration for the past year and in making nomin ations at thi meeting the entire roll of the junior class was care fully gone over at the next meeting fifteen men will be elected from these
