the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 107 no 15 friday november 5 1999 all the lehigh news first new system aims to provide reliable access by will little news writer lehigh's enterprise wide information system lewis will be offering students greater ease of access to information as early as next fall the search for the right software began last june a team of students evaluated eight different software packages explor ing all the options to find the right package the result of last june's search came up with one final product banner 2000 soft ware was purchased from systems and computer technology corporation registrar bruce correll said the lewis project chose sct banner software because it offered a fully integrated system and provided the greatest depth of experi ence with academic programs the goal of the lewis project is to give students faculty and staff full-time access to critical information with the implementation of the new software students who access lehigh's web site will then have access to billing status grade reports financial aid check lists degree audits class and exam sched ules and more students will be able to view and print an unofficial transcript and fill out a form requesting an official transcript as well future options include fully implementing the drop/add procedure for classes correll explained a unique benefit of the new system for time-constrained students the software will run for 22 hours a day correll said it shuts down two hours baw photo by d.anielle frikker president farrington spoke at the senior class gift dinner monday in the asa packer dining room he and several alumni urged senior class support in the future by way of alumni contributions farrington demonstrated the impor tance of senior class support by promising to dye his hair green for a full day if 40 percent of the senior class participated in fundraising for their future alma mater alumnae relate experiences at panel lecture by alexandra goldmacher news writer fifteen women discuss important issues ranging from internships to division of family and work alumnae shared their experiences and gave valuable advice to students and faculty at the leaders in residence program career forum tuesday fifteen female alumnae from six disci plines — chemistry history theater psy chology journalism and political science — participated in the forum and the other activ ities associated with the program the event was sponsored by the president's council of women the woman's networking center career services the women's studies department and kappa alpha theta sorority the forum began with a brief introduc tion questions were posed to the speakers by program members the alumnae recalled activities from their lehigh careers which helped to direct them later in ufe the importance of internships was ques tioned in the conversation on several occa sions according to the women internships allow students the opportunity to experiment in a particular field and decide on future careers without committing beforehand the panel also discussed what they would have changed about their undergrad uate careers if they had the opportunity to recreate their college experience balancing work with a personal life dominated a large portion of the forum the alumnae discussed having to make tough decisions regarding raising children while maintaining high-powered careers the last of the questions involved the importance of networking the speakers explained that having connections is often crucial when searching for a job the pan elists also stressed the importance of doing a good job and that connections alone are not enough after the initial question session the forum was opened to questions from audi ence members colleen davis 91 graduated with a b.a in theater she was impressed by the motivation of the audience tt was neat watching them think about the future davis said they were thinking about stuff i wasn't thinking about at that age it was great davis the production coordinator for the new victory theater in new york city supervises stagehands wardrobe staff and apprentices and keeps track of production department budgets kathy calabrese director of the women's center and child care center organized and led the discussion i'm really enjoying the enthusiasm and excitement and how upbeat everybody is calabrese said i think the women really had an impact the leaders in residence program is designed to enhance the classroom experi ence by giving students the opportunity to meet female
