the brown and white lehigh university's student newspaper founded in 1894 vol 103 no 37 friday march 29 1996 all the lehigh news first eagles flock to goodman campus by greg laplant assistant sports editor after months of speculation and rumors philadelphia eagles owner jeff lurie has decided to move his team's summer training camp from west chester university to lehigh's goodman campus the eagles have signed a one-year lease agreement with an option to resign for an additional two years the eagles held a preseason intrasquad scrimmage at lehigh last fall and rumors began circulating about the birds possible move lurie made it very clear that although the lehigh facilities were adequate he had no intention at the time to move the camp to bethlehem lurie seems to have had a change of heart and with that a change of address the team will abandon west chester as its preseason training site where training had been held for the past 1 6 years director of athletics joe sterrett was one of the key people responsible for bringing the eagles to south mountain i know that lehigh had been the leading choice for their summer training camp for some time sterrett said for the past few days it's mostly been a matter of working through questions the eagles may have had inuif-e courtesy of the philadelphia eagles home page bethlehem area football fans will be able to follow the eagles preseason action as they did july 30 at a scrimage at murray h goodman stadium faludi addresses obstacles facing equality for women new media attitude needed to achieve equality by patrick doherty news writer feminist and pulitzer prize winning jour nalist susan faludi challenged many contem porary notions about feminism in her speech in packard laboratory auditorium monday night faludi discussed the findings and ideas pre sented in her book backlash the undeclared war against american women she said the greatest obstacles facing full equality for women today are the strong media bias against feminism and the rise of false feminism faludi has written for the miami herald and the new yorker and won the pulitzer prize for a story she wrote in the wall street journal in after her introduc tion she said that she was glad to hear her cre dentials being used to complement her some critics faludi said are fond of using the term pulitzer prize winning feminist to insult her on the other hand faludi said that she had been called worse it's better than radical fem inist militant feminist or my personal favorite rabid feminist she said faludi said the decline of the influence of the feminist agenda during the 1980s and 90s has been caused largely by the efforts of tradi tional opponents of feminism and of those claiming to be feminists while being opposed to most of feminism's goals faludi said the credibility of these fake feminists is due to subtle manipulation of terms and ideas the spin from the 1980s presidential cam paigns was re employed in the long campaign against feminism she said the effort to take over feminism by these new feminists and by the conserv ative elements in the media began in the late 80s on col lege campuses faludi said on campuses female students who were not politically active would say that they were not feminists susan faludi alum sues lehigh for lax security by david butler news editor bryan finley 94 filed a lawsuit against lehigh last monday in northampton county court that states he was injured because the university failed to enforce its security poli cy regarding motor vehicles on campus the suit said on march 13 1994 finley was walking between alpha tau omega fra ternity and phi delta theta fraternity with seven other male students and four female students when they were approached by five unknown males in a brown bmw car the occupants got out near ato and started shouting derogatory comments at finley and the others after several insults were exchanged between the men and the students a fight ensued when several male students came out of their house in response to the commotion the men ran back to their car the suit says finley was trampled knocked over and injured during the hasty departure as a result finley suffered a severe twisting fracture of the left ankle nerve damage and loss of sensory and cogni tive functioning according to the suit it says he underwent extensive operations see eagles page 7 see faludi page 6 see lawsuit page 7 r^9 .-â– lp ft -
