obligingly spent most of the evening posing on a table top while the boys of the camera club clicked their shutters at her as the circle of camera fiends widen ed stan moyer solved the prob lem of space by hopping up on smitty's shoulders and taking high angle shots over the heads of the crowd members chagrined between shots the club members got a chance to talk with taffy and found out much to their dis appointment that taffy is her mo deling name her real name is mrs ace taffy is the first professional model that the camera club has had in the future they hope to be able to have more models at the meeting immediately pre action taken by lu group on discipline committee makes known infractions but omits names of individuals the discipline committee re ports the following actions taken by that body recently the names of the offenders are withheld from publication by wray h congdon dean of students and director personnel services the first action was the case of an individual in english 1 who had copied an old theme belonging to one of his fraternity brothers and turned it in as his own this is a case of plagiarism and the action was fully admitted by the student involved the committee voted to drop the student from the course without credit in the course and to place him on scholastic probation for the balance of the current semester and for the next ensuing semester of his registration athletic books lifted six cases of students who had allowed their athletic coupon books to be used by non-students were also reported to the commit tee in the past the discipline committee has never taken action in such instances the coupon book is taken up by the athletic department and the student is de nied the use of the coupon book for the balance of the semester in the future however it is to be understood that whenever such cases occur these students will be reported to the discipline comit tee for disciplinary action in addi tion to the forfeiture of his coupon book this is public notice to all students of the university's posi tion in the matter lehigh enters convention on model politics list meetings to select delegates to conference on politics government lehigh university will partici pate in the model political con vention conducted every four years under the auspices of the in tercollegiate conference on gov ernment the purpose of the convention is to give college personnel actual ex perience to how the national presi dential conventions work this convention like the real republican and democratic party conventions which will come in june and july will be held in philadelphia the headquarters will be at the bellevue-stratford hotel the convention days will be april 8-11 convention objective a major objective of the con vention will be to draft a model political platform which will in corporate views on current issues as college delegates see them the convention will be conducted along the same pattern as that used by the major political parties committees will be elected to re port on these current political iss ues which will be incorporated in to the planks of the platform each school represented will have one vote on the rules committee while in the general sessions each school will have votes in proportion to the size of its delegation up to a maximum of 25 votes george howatt instructor in history and government will be faculty advisor to the lehigh dele gation regular preparatory meet ings will be held between now and the convention date the study of parliamentary procedure as well as current political lissues will be taken up at these meetings first meeting scheduled lehigh men who are interested in becoming delegates should sub mit their names at the office of dr g d harmon department of his tory and government coppee hall the first meeting of the lehigh delegates will take place at 4 p.m tuesday march 9 in room 34 coppee hall more information and future information will be an nouncel at this time a student de legation chairman will be chosen at this meeting preparation for the convention will officially get underway when the lehigh delegation travels to wilkes college wilkes-barre pa saturday march 13 to attend the northeastern regional meeting of the intercollegiate confeience on government convention commit tee chairmen will be selected and committee assignments made to discuss current topics students with backgrounds and interest in current political prob lems will have an excellent oppor tunit to present their views for consideration in the model plat form to be adopted at the conven tion civil rights foreign affairs la bor military affairs taxation and finance education veterans affairs and health and welfare are some of the topics on which convention action will be taken persons inter ested in parliamentary procedure and the practics of party conven tions will have the chance to study these matters and then put their knowledge into actual use the convention also will afford oppor tunity for public speaking prof howard eckfeldt howard eckfeldt professor emeritus of mining engineering is reported to have died march 1 at the home of his son jacob t eck feldt in lima peru prof eckfeldt obtained his de gree in metallurgy from lehigh in 1895 in 1896 he received the de gree of mining engineer he spent four years as mining engineer with the concepcion del oro mazapil copper co ltd in zacatecas mex ico and later returned to lehigh where he taught for 42 years re ceiving his professorship in 1902 in addition to his teaching acti vities professor eckfeldt was ac tive in university affairs he was a member of the executive board of the lehigh institute of research and was affiliated with alpha tau omega sigma xi national honor ary research society the ameri symphony pension fund on march 20 she is now compet ing for a roll with the metropolitan opera her performances in cosi fan tutte will undoubtedly con tribute consideraly to her chances and at the same time increase her prestige in the musical world cosi fan tutte is being pre sented as an opera for college the purpose is to stimulate a cul tural interest for opera in the leaders of tomorrow — satisfy ing dramatically as well as musi cally stage presentation on april 16 and 17 combined musical groups of neighboring colleges cooperate on production a new collegiate theatrical-en terprise of magnitude never before attempted will be presented on april 16 and 17 in grace hall ac cording to a statement released by ralph g schwarz director of pro duction for lehigh's spring music festival last wednesday although plans have been in effect since september the full program was withheld from the public until final arrangements were well underway after the en thusiastic reception with which the glee club was received at foun tain hill high school wednesday morning it was decided to make the overall plan available to the public supported by 400 people according to william schempf head of the department of music at lehigh the musical extravaganza is being supported by over 400 peo ple from many university depart ments and several women's colle ges as well as by several large in dustrial organizations the basic performers will be the combined musical clubs of lehigh including the glee club the band and also the collegians the chorus will be augmented by members of glee club groups from moravian ce dar crest centenary and beaver college for women in addition a group of lehigh gymnasts and a group of rotc men will partici pate certain parts of the spectacle require special effects which have not yet been used by any stage producing group in the country the technical staff of the festival has had conferences with leading technicians from new york and hollywood in an attempt to sur mount these obstacles plenty cooperation directors of radio city music hall and representatives of cen tury lighting company have al ready cooperated in working out problems of stage and lighting equipment the new jersey zinc company has also offered to allow recent developments of their re search department to be used for special fluorescent effects while eastman-kodak and westinghouse have not yet lent their full support schwarz stated that he momenta rily expected anouncements of complete cooperation from them the stage for the production will extend the full ength of the east side seats of grace hall and will be the longest stage in the na tion according to a query of radio city officials by utilizing the main floor area and the west side seats the audience
