university men's basketball team is going to the ncaas no kidding the engineers shocked the basketball world last night with a 76-74 overtime victory over heavily-favored bucknell in the ecc finals thus gaining the first ncaa bid in lehigh history in what may be the biggest win in lehigh university sports history the engineers won the right to play in the nation's most prestigious post season basketball tournament beginning next thursday night for their effort the enginners left in the overtime bucknell's desperation shot at the buzzer bounced off the rim as time expired queenan led lehigh with 31 points and polaha added 17 wickman also chipped in with 14 bucknell was led by mark allsteadt's 20 chris seneca's 14 the engineers had to overcome an early 15-point deficit to take first place in front of nearly 1,700 fans at the towson center in towson maryland we're dues-paying members of the ecc and we're viable members of the ncaas remarked an ecstatic tom schneider lehigh head coach and then thrown into the pool located in the barroom of the house despite her screaming she claimed that she was repeatedly dunked under the water the second woman reported a similar incident saying she was pushed and shoved around and that some fiji brothers intending to throw her into the pool attempted to tear some of her clothing off both claim that they were grabbed and touched on all parts of their bodies including their breasts crotch and buttocks area according to a campus police report junior john healy fiji president said that although he has not yet been notified by greek life coordinator mike boyd he thinks it was people from other houses that were involved healy added that he had not noticed any girls leaving that looked upset erickson said the incident is still under investigation a male guest also com plained to campus police that he was thrown into the pool however he was unable to positively identify any of the people involved three years ago fiji was placed on social probation for forceably throwing two bethlehem women into the pool at the ft lauderdale party as a result the fraternity was banned from having open parties for the rest of the semester provost's wife fined for sex bias claim by janis barney four lehigh students have charged their landlord sheila humphrey wife of provost arthur humphrey with sex discrimination because they claim she said she will not rent to lehigh males and was found to be in violation of bethlehem city ordinance 2702 the fair housing act which prohibits sex discrimination in leasing by fair housing officer jeffrey zettlemoyer senior robert fletcher one of the students who made the initial complaint said he told humphrey who recently pur chased the house he and his roommates rent at 490 birkel ave that he thought they should have first chance at renting the place lehlgh gains first-ever ncaa tourney bid will most likely draw a top-five ranked team possibly even georgetown or st john's mike polaha once again provided the heroics by drawing all net with a spinning 15-foot jumper over the bison's chris seneca with 8 seconds and jaye andrew's 16 points lehigh had beaten drexel saturday 58-56 in the quarterfinals and hofstra 72-68 sunday in the semis to draw first place bucknell who had beaten the engineers twice during the regular season lehigh wins easterns the lehigh wrestling team captured its 25th championship in the 81st eiwa tournament last weekend and three lehigh wrestlers were crowned individual champions pete yozzo and tom toggas as 142-pounds and 158 respectively won their first titles and engineer captain paul diekel was honored for the second consecutive year the engineers 5-9 qualified five of its 10 participants for the national tournament in oklahoma next
