              doyle's project was to see if using liq uid hydrogen instead of what is used now was reasonable m terms of the limitat ions involved she spent 10 weeks m hampton beach living 30 minutes from the beach and was also paid for her internship through gov ernment funding nasa is able to provide its interns with scholarships from which a portion was given to them each week tax free in order to be accepted into the pro gram doyle sent out over 30 resumes to the 10 different nasa research institutes completed a five-page application and got recommendations doyle said her experience was some thing she had always dreamed of ever since i was young i have been interested m space she said now i at least have my foot m the door for some where i want to be m the future jeff gold 98 interned for usa network m new york city m the sales and advertising department although he was unpaid he agreed that internships allow for future experience it was great to learn to see what it is like to be m an office and see how a business runs and works he said gabe grifoni 98 also worked m new york city for the marketing department of comedy central grifoni spent his days editing and screen ing tapes and putting together a board tape the 12-minute tape consisted of reel that would be submitted to the board displaying the classic cup the gourmet food ser vice located m the rauch and test toys while tracy doyle 98 was m hampton va helping design a fuel system for a jet being created by nasa light and doyle are two of many stu dents who were involved with summer internships they and others were given the chance to gain work experience that may lead to future jobs light a mechanical engineering major worked for k'nex industry toy company m hatfield pa at the beginning stages of the internship light began by playing with the toys to see if they were enjoyable and later helped to design and test the toys for safety last spring light saw the ad for the job m lehigh listings after an application and interview process he was offered the job k'nex which makes construction toys simi lar to legos offered light a paid internship light said the atmosphere of the compa ny was relaxed and the dress code was always casual he enjoyed the internship because he said he never felt like an intern my ideas were respected and treated equally light said i would sit m on meetings and my ideas counted equally the best part was that i got a lot of experi ence for the future doyle also a mechanical engineering major worked for nasa designing a fuel system for a jumbo jet being released m 2020 city council selects bethlehem interim mayor by t.j furman editor m chief former bethlehem mayor paul marcincin was chosen as the interim mayor by the city council last night m a unanimous vote after current mayor kenneth r smith gave his formal resignation effective oct 1 to the council marcincin 79 served as mayor from 1978 until 1987 after a 10-year stint as a councilman he was thrown out of the mayor's office see mayor page 5 a republican m 1993 nyul also cited marcincin's voided run for office m 1987 i think the council should respect the wishes of the people of bethlehem nyul said they elected a republican to office the meeting was smith's last as mayor and council president james a delgrosso presented him with a citation extending the council's special thanks and gratitude for his work over the last 10 years when there were problems we sat otto ehrsam jr and donald t cunningham is nov 4 former mayor gordon payrow 79 and former councilman george karabin 73 also applied for the post after smith's sept 3 announcement he was leaving for a job as lehigh university's vice president of pub lic affairs gop council candidate chuck nyul expressed his concern last night that the council selected a democrat to serve m smith's place smith was elected to his current term as by the state supreme court m 1987 after running m a third-consecutive term against a city ordinance smith took over the posi tion for marcincin at that time councilman robert j donchez nominat ed marcincin a democrat for the post it's my belief that marcincin can serve this city as interim mayor donchez said his knowledge of city government will serve bethlehem well over those 90 days marcincin will serve m the position until the mayor-elect takes office on jan 8 1998
